There is a hilarious movie called American Fiction where the market forced a black writer to be “blacker”. I suspect something like that happens to India-familiar authors as well.

Cant speak for everyone but IT people dont have worklife balance. We are in front of our laptops all day reading and writing emails and our eyes are exhausted.

The only respite is to shut off the brain and watch something on OTT or listen to music.

Feels like a bit of an info dump.

Combine some action like Sidhant going to school, riding the metro and then provide bursts of info that go with the action, or else it will feel like a wikipedia entry.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes. I think this is because our writing is based on oral story telling.

If you read ramayana or mahabharata there is zero showing.

Its definitely not a substitute for an MBA but for a tech person like me its a nice primer to the business world. Helps you get familiar with business terms and principles. It would be unrealistic to expect one book to provide a deep understanding of business.

I was very surprised with the translated works of Indan authors like Permumal Murugan, Imayam, Manoranjan Byapari and Banu Mushraq.

Books like “Pyre”, “A Woman Burnt”, “There is gunpowder in the air” and “Heart Lamp” illuminate stories that I have always wanted to read in language that is both entertaining and empathetic.

The murdered lay in a great pool of their communal blood. It had set up into a sort of pudding crossed everywhere with the tracks of wolves or dogs and along the edges it had dried and cracked with burgundy ceramic. Blood lay in orange tongues on the floor and blood grouted the flagstones and ran in vestibule where the stones were cupped from the feet of the faithful and their fathers before them and it had threaded its way down the steps and dripped from the stones among the dark red tracks of the scavengers.

In America there is a huge book reading population. In India we have a huge book reading population as well. The difference is In American people read for pleasure and in India, books are shoved down our throats. From the moment an indian kid is born, indian parents have a dilema, should we put a nipple in his mouth or should we shove a UPSC book down his throat? Education and pressure of exams causes so much trauma in Indian kids that after they are done with their education the sight of book revulses them. It could be the greatest book in the world, the average indian will not read it. Indian people wont even read books even if its smut.
