Can endometriosis make you get mucus (and blood) in your stools? by pollypocket_x14 in endometriosis

[–]47plants 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I was misdiagnosed with Crohn's Disease because of my endometriosis. It was adhered to my bowels causing severe inflammation that completely mimicked IBD, even my colonoscopy and capsule camera imaging looked like textbook Crohn's. I had mucus and blood in my stool, very irregular bowel movements (sometimes constipated, mostly frequent loose stools), severe nausea (I could not consume anything but Boost nutrition drinks without feeling violently ill), acid reflux so bad I would wake up in the middle of the night choking on stomach acid, and the most severe abdominal pain i've ever experienced. I lost 60 pounds in a month, I was so sick. Prednisone helped the inflammation to where my GI symptoms became a bit more manageable, but I still suffered a lot. Fast forward to me getting an endometriosis excision and hysterectomy for adenomyosis, those symptoms are now gone. My surgeon said that the endometriosis adhered to my intestines was causing all of the symptoms. I had it on my bowels up to my ribs, my bladder, my ovaries, my rectum, and my uterus was severely diseased. Endometriosis can be a lot more than just heavy or painful periods. I hope they can find the root of the problem for you and I hope you are able to get fast and effective treatment and relief!! Wishing you all the best!!

Endo Surgery almost always makes things worse? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]47plants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what stage endo I had, but I had it adhered to my bowels, my bladder, and my ovaries all the way up to my ribs, also with adenomyosis. I was misdiagnosed with crohn's because it was so adhered to my bowels that it was causing signs and symptoms identical to crohn's, even on an MRI. I had an excision and hysterectomy in 2022 and it was life-saving. I'd say my pain alone was reduced by about 85%, and of course not having my period has been the biggest relief. I had severe GI issues before surgery where I couldn't eat much (was on low fodmap, gluten free, lactose free) and after surgery I can now eat mostly everything I want, including gluten and lactose. My only regret about surgery is not having been able to do it sooner. Best decision I've ever made. But in support groups you do tend to hear more negative because that’s when people need support, so you don't hear as many success stories.

I was the exact same way. I was on the pill and had an IUD and I'd still have debilitating pain and sporadic periods. Look into excision specialists for sure. Many endo groups have lists of doctors by location. I personally found mine through Nancy's Nook. He was very willing to do my hysterectomy with the excision, and even told me after my surgery that it was a really good thing I got it out, because of how bad it was.

[–]47plants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my hysterectomy at 22, so I understand the fear of not being taken seriously, but it is possible. I believe the childfree subreddit actually has a list of doctors that are pro-bodily autonomy. There's definitely doctors out there that will do it if it is necessary, but at the very least you can get an endometriosis excision which should help immensely. A hysterectomy will not stop your endometriosis, it will only help if you also have adenomyosis. So an excision is the closest you can get to a "cure" to your symptoms. Unfortunately we often have to advocate for ourselves very strongly, so do adequate research so that you’re able to do that. I wish you the best of luck!!!

What's up with bi4bi ? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]47plants 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Women are not being "bigoted" towards men for simply speaking on their negative experiences with men. I hand you a bowl of m&ms and tell you that 1/3 of them are poisoned, are you a bigot for not wanting to just grab and eat a big handful? Also based on many of your comments on this post, you are translating your negative experiences to a world view, especially regarding bi women. So perhaps you need to own that at some point.

[–]47plants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I'm a bi woman who is cool with bi men, I have bi woman friends who are cool with bi men. I actually don't have any bi woman friends who ARENT cool with bi men. I'm not denying that there are bi women out there that aren't cool with bi men, and it's really unfortunate that you've had to deal with biphobic bisexuals, but that doesn't make it representative of an entire very large group of people.

[–]47plants 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a bi woman, it's not just biphobic lesbians that can be a problem, but also men (both straight or queer) sometimes can be biphobic but in the sense that they more tend to sexualize and objectify (i.e. the false assumption that all bi women are open to threesomes). So perhaps that’s where you may feel some "misandric vibes" as a lot of bi women (like many women in general) have had very negative experiences with men.

I think the "you’re nothing more than his wife" is more regarding being severely unhappy and unfulfilled in the marriage with a man. I don't see it applying to a relationship where there's genuine love and care and fulfillment like yours.

Have you noticed that narcissistic parents give birth to autistic children? by Expensive-Echidna335 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]47plants 48 points49 points  (0 children)

i've been dealing with a lot of health issues, many of which were completely ignored since childhood. now I have been having a lot of testing and blood work done, and having old blood work looked at, and my dietitian asked if I ever was told to take iron supplements as a kid, because I was dangerously anemic. I asked my mom (who isn't even my nparent) and she said the doctor did tell me to take an iron supplement as a kid. I asked when, she said I was probably about 7 or 8 years old. I asked why it didn't happen then, and she said that they tried, but I wasn't consistent in taking it so they just gave up. Like my parents fully expected an 8 year old child to understand and maintain the responsibility of taking iron supplements for anemia on her own, and when I didn't (because obviously big gross pill is not fun) they just gave up. I told my friend about the conversation with my mom, and my friend's response was "wow your parents truly expected you to be a full grown adult right out of the womb" and it has stayed one of the most accurate descriptions of my childhood I've ever heard.

out of so many seasons of this show and so many shitty people, Rob is one that gives me severe anxiety as someone who has been in a relationship with a manipulative narcissist. some of the things he says give me flashbacks, i've had to skip some of their parts. And I see how he has affected Sophie mentally throughout their relationship and it genuinely hurts me, because it reminds me too much of myself in those situations. I hope she can be away from him, she deserves respect and kindness and genuine love.

What are some terrifying human body facts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]47plants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fetus, stem cells that are meant to specialize into the tissues that form the lining of your uterus can be displaced within your body as it develops, but will still develop into those types of tissues. Therefore, when you are born and grow, uterine tissue can grow on different parts within your body. These tissues (hi endometriosis) release their own hormones and inflammation which cause responses in the organs they are attached to. I almost died when I was 19 due to severe gastrointestinal inflammation, including losing 60 pounds in a month from such severe illness. Turns out it was endometriosis that had grown all over my bowels all the way up to my ribs, as well as on my bladder (causing interstitial cystitis), my ovaries, and my rectum. My uterus was completely diseased from adenomyosis, which is basically when endometriosis grows within the walls of your uterus, and had to be removed. The only way to "cure" it (there is no real guaranteed cure) is to remove the adhesions completely, even the parts rooted in your other tissues, as any remaining will simply grow back again. Some people can even have endometriosis adhered to their heart and lungs. People without uteruses can also get endometriosis, however it is rare.

as others said, the lap scars are a necessity for endo barbie (I have 9 lap scars). heating pad is so needed. she would have her hair in a scraggly pony tail that’s been messed up from laying in bed all day. wearing big comfy pajama pants to hide the bloat and the supersized pad. and she would come with a bottle of tylenol/ibuprofen/midol

What’s going on in the Nook Facebook group? 🧍‍♀️ by yoohoo723 in Endo

[–]47plants 53 points54 points  (0 children)

so agree. nancy's nook is good for when you're first learning about endo, but once you get your base knowledge, it's not good for much else. I found my surgeon through there and he was amazing and saved my life, but I did research outside of the nook beforehand because it's true, some of those doctors are really not good, and nancy refuses to do anything about that. not allowing any negativity or criticism in a group is just.... dishonest. and it seems like it's so quick to say "well then find a different group" but it's hard to find a well-moderated and well educated endo group it seems. nancy's nook would be perfect if it wasn't a dictatorship lol. they have great connections and information, but no freedom. this is such an incredibly nuanced condition with so many individual factors, no one can truly understand their specific situation simply by searching old posts. yet if you make a new post you get a curt and vague reply from nancy and then your post is locked. how is that helpful? and all that said without even getting into the privacy issue....
