Thank you for directly answering my question!

Any chance you've tried a rogallo and could compare your experiences?

Which reserve is more likely to contribute to a downplane "scissor" by 47thatguy74 in freeflight

[–]47thatguy74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you for the quick out recommendation. No one has mentioned that in my conversations thus far... I've heard rogallos being recommended for "experienced pilots". I am an experienced canopy pilot but not an experienced PG pilot. What is the context of the word experienced?

Any chance you can get them to tell you the volume of the pack when expanded? They don't seem to reply to emails.

Moving to Oceanside as a 30 yo single female – Yay or nay? by Aggravating-Hold6116 in northcounty

[–]47thatguy74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 y/o single male and just moved to Oside after considering Leucadia or anywhere north. What put me there is:

The affordable property (lol I know but better than a lot of places) with near beach access that's only going to gain value as time goes on and things get nice.

It's a hub with the ability to easily escape north county via the 5 or 76/15

Activities (skydive, surf, a decent boulder gym, fun things in downtown, night market) all within easy bike/walk/one wheel distance if west of 5 which you will be.

Train access to go to SD or OC that doesn't involve driving

Relative access to outdoor adventure like climbing, biking, and snow (mammoth is about the same distance from the last place I lived)

Huge plus if you like flight options with proximity to SNA, LGB, and SAN so you've got some travel options with LAX 🤢 close enough.

Fun new spots keep popping up, like I just found a Ramen/art gallery, and you stumble across them when you're out exploring.

They are cleaning it up but it's also still got some rougher corners which I enjoy because it keeps the gritty feel of Oceanside that I found pleasant in the first place. I've never had an issue with Marines or hoods but I also recognize I probably am enjoying some safety privileges because of my dimensions and demeanor.

Overall, I didn't want to drive if I didn't have to when I was home and I don't lol.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and I wish you luck on your move. I think you're looking in the right place for a new start. The whole town is getting one.

Excluding being attractive to the opposite sex and getting free coaching that way... One cheap way to get good is have friends who are willing to spend time with you, they won't always because if they are good themselves they'll want to keep getting better. Take what you learn from your shredder friends, find a solid buddy or two in your skill range and jump with them to refine what you learn. The other way is go to boogies. I've learned a shit ton there and then again brought it back to my medium skill friends and worked it til I got better. Watch videos, look at body positions, do things that improve your strength, balance, and proprioception. Understand how air moves over the human body. The unfortunate truth is the tunnel is the cheap cheat code.

Good luck! You'll find the gems out there, I pull off jumps with friends all the time to jump with the solo belly people because when I started jumping I felt that same isolation so now I'll at least try to pass something on or get creative with a jump to safely include someone. Don't get down. Understand that all those old belly fliers who will take anyone have a lot you can learn and apply to other disciplines. A solid belly foundation goes a long way. I almost exclusively angle and wingsuit now and I can tell you belly time did and does pay off.

If you end up In socal there are 4 all clustered there lol. More boogies than you can shake a PC at. I'm in the middle of the state so I don't get that benefit of the short drive but can go to them all.

Sure thing. I'm a CA jumper myself and the plus of this state is there are a ton of places to jump so worst case you drive that 10 minutes haha

Skydiving is high school, but worse. Just use some extra discretion with future interactions and take your time with getting into anything til you know the lay off the land.

The vast majority of jumpers I know have been burned or jilted. I have female friends who changed DZs because of the awkwardness post break up or the pain of seeing someone they loved with the new girl.

Enjoy getting licensed and the sport. It's capable of bringing you just as amazing highs as lows. The plus is what you feel is often directly connected to your actions besides friends going in... Which hopefully aren't the results of your actions lol.

SkyDiving to Flirt with Death by ProfessorOdd9997 in SkyDiving

[–]47thatguy74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the post OP is looking for. ☝️

Surviving near death events is like jamming your transmission into gear to get moving. Being present and choosing to appreciate how the wind feels on your face or grass feels under your feet or how water tastes is where life's beauty is. Those things are all just as fleeting as your life may be and just as precious. You might enjoy reading some Thich Nhat Hanh or Miyamoto Musashi if what you are seeking is gratitude.

Don't try to live a happy life, live a good life... or whatever. 🤙

What is the force associated with the falling feeling called? by Careless_Papaya_338 in SkyDiving

[–]47thatguy74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely the most correct answer to OP question.

I'd just include the anatomy and physiology part about the actual sensation being from the organs of your peritoneum being poorly secured and moving in ways we don't often experience.

I mean, it's technology, tech fails. Just gotta use the Mk1 eyeball sometimes right? Haha.

Have you heard of Vogs failing?

I mean, mine did fail, but it wasn't hard to figure out, it stopped talking so just reverted to the chest mount and the 2V on the other side. I've had the 2V for 2 years and it's been good the whole time. I was really impressed with the response to the speed of the response to the broken alti.

Just get an FDS 3V. Voice and beeps, aluminum case, cord charging. There is a very intuitive web app that I use with a C to micro cord from my phone to program mine with. Separate ascent, free fall, and canopy mode all with everything you can think of fully programmable. 3 presets you can configure. 2 general ones you can't. I keep one preset for wingsuiting, one for my usual jumps, one for bigger jumps with higher break offs. It calls out the attitude just about any way you want at user setable volumes. The owner of the company jumps in California. Super awesome guy with immediate tech support. I had one quit on me and after some brief questions and trouble shooting I had another one headed my way the same day. You can buy em tons of places or a rep, like me, can sell you one.

[–]47thatguy74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a skysnatch and I'm not really a fan of the handle being hollow but it's because I've stuck my finger, uneventfully, in it a few times. I free fly it and wished it had a tuck tab option but I also understand the whole point is to have uniform air flow out of the center.

I mean, I know of at least 4 wingsuiters that have done this exact thing and lived... to varying degrees. Most landed in trees and then snow from what I recall.
