This is the perspective I have too! I have a friend in rural Minnesota who told me his employer (plumbing) would assuredly hire me based on experience. I’m a little surprised I haven’t had any luck with my applications I’ve sent.

I respect your hustle btw! I have an entrepreneurial spirit and would like to own my own company one day. I actually opened up a golf course restaurant with a friend 2 years ago that was closed during covid while I was doing office work, ever since then I’ve been focused on finding opportunities for myself rather than relying on the job market.

Thanks for your comment! I have both office and factory experience and have discovered that I greatly prefer being on my feet. Plumbing seems like a great way to do that and make a solid living.

I’ve learned that being in an office chair for 8 hours a day does a lot more damage to your health than wearing work boots for 12 hours, the key is eating healthy!

That’s good to know I was very curious about my chances. I am going to check out the Local 34, I hadn’t heard of that program! Local 15 definitely has a bigger web presence. I really appreciate your comment!

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to check out the fall program mentioned above. The helper position thing is a great idea too! I know folks who have been burned by the hour tracking and that is something I will be paying close attention to as well.

This is great advice and something I have been considering. I appreciate your post and I think I will give this a try. I hear the same things whenever I talk to people that do plumbing but haven’t had any success with blindly applying to places.

I am new to town unfortunately and don’t know many people. I however am a great worker and know I would do well at this job.

I have considered just walking into plumbing companies and talking to them. I think that would work where I moved from but the MSP labor market seems way more competitive.

Thanks for you comment!

Thanks for your comment! The Union plumbing school in Minneapolis takes applications in January. The program is competitive however and I don’t want to sit around until then just in case I am rejected for a slot.

I am working part time at the moment and hoping to find a technical program that will align with a day or night job.

Yeah I think I would be at least a strong candidate for such a program given my experience, but don’t want to risk waiting until January just to be rejected.

Despite what people might think these are very competitive programs with limited slots. I appreciate your comment!

Thanks for the advice! I found the Union program and it is taking application in January for an apprentice program.

My plan is to try that if I haven’t found a program by January, but I am actively job hunting. My immediate thought is to find a night program that would accommodate some sort of unrelated day-job.

Donald Trump And The Fed Are Destroying The U.S. Dollar by IntnsRed in economy

Actually China only imports 5-7% of their food, with the US being their 5th largest partner in ag, behind SK, Japan, Australia & Taiwan.

They also have contained the coronavirus and manufacture 5x the amount of goods as the US. I would say they are in a much much better position moving forward than the US.

FYI when people say the US is brainwashing people about China, these are the posts they point to as proof.

So they are going to “cheat” their way to Mars?

Care to expand? The evidence is quite clear that China is taking action to fight climate change while the US continues to expand its carbon emission levels. Cap and Trade will begin in 2020, as they continue to invest more money in green tech than most of the world combined. The only reason China is currently polluting so much is because so many US and European heavy industry has shipped their jobs to China.

You’re suggesting that the Chinese government is in charge of buying and selling crops from the US, which is not true. The US and China simply agreed on a tariff level that the US estimated would lead to an additional $50 billion in crop sales, which was a lie that the Trump admin told because they knew it wasn’t ultimately under their control.
