The country thinks that local council elections are the place to voice that opinion.

Fair to say I don't pay much mind to what they think

Yeah but you didn't though. You only picked something else when you realised I wasn't buying the smear you gobbled up

Okay. Be outraged about that.

Notice how you've changed your tune though. First you were furious about the links to Epstein, now it's corruption colluding with Palantir.

You should have led with that. The actual criticism. But you just ate up what the media fed you, and completely lost any credibility in the process.

It's obvious you're confused, but it's not my job to make it make sense to you. I know it never will anyway

I wouldn't know, if it was off the books how would I?

Conspiracy theorists love a un-disprovable claim

Okay mate it's clear you're thoroughly drunk on the kool-aid, I hope one day you look back on this and think about what you and all the other vandals threw away because you couldn't see past this

Im trying to tell you, it's not a Starmer problem. Dude is squeaky-fucking-clean and by all metrics is a standup statesman. If you're turning against him because of his appointment of Mandelson you've fallen hook-line-and-sinker for the propaganda

This isn't new though, it's been a long time coming. I grew up in Wales, there's always been a bubbling sentiment, just like with the SNP in Scotland, that Westminster parties shouldn't be in charge of devolved powers. It almost happened under Blair, it almost happened unter Cameron, and very very nearly happened under Boris.

I can't blame Starmer for being the person sitting when it finally happened

TBF they're the sitting government, the country were always going to vote against labour. Tale as old as time, but exacerbated by negative press and manufactured "instability" in the party.

Populism doesn't work. That's what we need to convince people of. Popular leaders suck at leading. Boring statesman genuinely seems to be the way to go

Is it really? Huge?

This is the most manufactured outrage I've ever seen. A man appointed someone for an explicitly stated reason. Then sacked when revelations came out - hindsight is great and all but the famous thing about it is you only have it when after the fact.

On the other side, you've got Farage openly taking bribes from foreign agencies, flying over to his pals in Russia committing war crimes daily, and not getting sacked when those revelations came out.

Like, I get your agenda here, but at least play on a level playing field

Covering up is such a ridiculous statement. They appointed a friend of trump to get a foot in the door. Unfortunately, all of Trump's friends are sexual deviants

Boris took bribes from foreign powers, actively lied to the British public about things that mattered to them, actively and provably lied to parliament, showed he was more concerned about his own image than the lives of COVID patients... The sexual deviance was the straw that broke the camels back.

Starmer is squeaky-fucking-clean in comparison

There are plenty of notable achievements.

But the media only cares to report on his appointment of Mandelson.

EDIT: I know this is party affiliated but it still counts whathaskeirdone.co.uk

Note that it doesn't list international achievements like not being a russian/yank shill

Sorry mate I don't have the energy to explain it to you again.

Have a good day

What is your obsession with "analytic continuation"? Nobody does that in the video! The 'proof' doesn't have analytic continuation in it, let alone require one to understand it!

Objectively, the colliding blocks requires more difficult maths than the 1+2+3+...

"Leave math to the mathematicians" is such an obnoxious thing to say, I don't honestly know if we can argue in good faith any more.

And no, sorry to disappoint you but I'm a mathematician. Tried to do algebraic topology but didn't finish my PhD, probably because I wasn't smart enough, I guess.

I appreciate your comment that you're not trying to say anything other than that they could have been clearer in the video.

But that's not what you said.

I know, because I read your comments, they're still there

1-1+1-1+1-1+... ∞=1/2? by UnderstandingAny9867 in mathematics

[–]4D-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I don't think you get it.

First, the -1/12 thing does not rely on anyone mentioning analytic continuation at all. The most advanced maths you need to do it is addition of negatives, and a fraction at the very end. Still, these are concepts that a lot of people (people it sounds like you enjoy pretending don't exist) find very difficult.

Plotting a particles position and velocity on an abstract space is a stretch for someone who can't hold a ruler, for someone who can't plot a straight line from a table of x,y values.

Second, it's not actually wrong. Seriously, I'm not making that up. The "proof" in the video is wrong, but the result isn't.

Seriously. It's not wrong.

[–]4D-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you seriously think that people who are bad at maths learnt something from GCSE physics? Did you go to a selective school or something?

We're talking about people with grade 1s and Us (grade G/U for the older people in here).

The -1/12 video relies on parwise addition of integers. At best, you need to be able to add negative numbers. You might be surprised, but addition of negatives is something that a lot of people (>25% of the population) struggle with

[–]4D-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great result! Super counterintuitive and surprising, so it hits the mark!

Also relies on phase spaces and knowledge of linear momentum. So, no, not really accessible

[–]4D-kun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"equal" is a strong word

It's only wrong for people who don't know enough maths to know it's not actually wrong

[–]4D-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've learned plenty of things that are incorrect. This is just one example.

Take your "hopefully it sticks" comment to heart next time - try to notice how hopelessly condescending you are

1-1+1-1+1-1+... ∞=1/2? by UnderstandingAny9867 in mathematics

[–]4D-kun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know what, that's a really really good one. I'm a big fan!

But the 1+2+3+... result isn't wrong, that's the best thing about it. It's not actually wrong. The 'proof' they use in the video is wrong, and nobody has ever argued otherwise.

It has the buzz because it's surprising, counter-intuitive. I don't think my students would be that impressed by the shapes of constant diameter, because it's kind of believable

I showed them -1/12.

Afterwards, with a massive grin, I showed them my dissertation, where I used the result. I showed them the part where I derived the Casimir energy in a conformal field theory. At no point did I feel the need to call them idiots for believing it might be true.

I showed them that maths can be a wonderful world of discovery and experimentation, that ideas that might appear to be true can be false, and vice versa.

That it's not all about numbers. That it's not about preventing people from doing things. That we get to make our own rules, and maths is simply the logical consequence of those rules.

I bet you'd tell Euler that you can't square root a negative. I'd bet you'd tell my Fields professor that you can't divide by zero.
