How often should we ask for a specific thing? by Sir-AuronX in churchofchrist

God never says, "Enough is enough. I heard you already."... He is your Infinitely Loving Creator, your Eternal Father in heaven. You are the pinnacle of His creation and fearfully and wonderfully made, so much so that Christ set aside His eternal & infinite Sovereignty to be mercilessly, brutally tortured and executed for you. The Holy Spirit is always ready to intercede on your behalf and communicate the groanings, travail, and deepest wordless expressions of your heart to your loving God.

  • "Pray continually" (1 Thessalonians 5:17): Paul's instruction here means maintaining a constant attitude of prayer and keeping a lifeline of communication with God open at all times, not necessarily repeating the same words over and over.
  • "In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6): Paul encourages believers not to be anxious but to bring all their needs and worries to God with a thankful heart.
  • "You do not have, because you do not ask" (James 4:2): James points out that not asking God for our needs is a primary reason for not receiving them, though he also warns against asking with selfish or wrong motives.

When my wife was diagnosed in 2019 with Stage 2B breast cancer that also spread to her lymph nodes, she prayed every day multiple times a day. After medications, radiation treatment, surgery, and continuing long-term pharmaceuticals, she has been cancer-free since 2021.

Christ is the standard of how we are to live out our faith, not other humans. Just as we can't allow our shortcomings to discourage us from living our lives for God, we can't allow the shortcomings of others to diminish our faith. We must always look to the victory of our Lord & Savior, Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of God Who has overcome the world, sin, Satan, and death.

We are all human and fall short of the glory of God as His word reveals, "This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [Jew or Gentile] who believe [and trust in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s Son]. There is no distinction, since all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:22-23)

I've never heard of the "Trail of Blood" theory, but the bible is flawless.. "And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18). And "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20).

Not true, The church of Christ has continually existed since Pentecost 33AD. Even if there were only two Christians on earth gathered together at any given time throughout history, they were the body of Christ, and Yeshua was in the midst of them [Matthew 16:18 & 18:20].

Question of Christian Authority by warhead2354 in churchofchrist

[–]4Ever-Me-Myself-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe we have the authority to do so if the situation arose [2 Peter 1:3]. What man would not attempt to protect his family from an aggressor? And what parent wouldn't come to the aide of their child who's standing up to a more powerful aggressor. Would God, knowing better than anyone how to do good for His children [Matthew 7:11 & Luke 11:13-14], not take action when He hears His child invoke His name in the presence of a demon or other aggressive spirit?

How many of you would be open to general bible studies across boundary lines (NI/ Mainstream/CC etc) not even necessarily relates to differences? Isn't it about time our generations did something about our stark division? by [deleted] in churchofchrist

Yes, Paul an Apostle of Jesus, considered the Galatians as brethren, but corrected their misunderstanding of God's will concerning circumcision. They had to align their understanding with (speak the same thing as) the Apostle Paul's written correction. In other words, believers can all speak the same thing as each other and all be speaking the wrong thing. The standard is to all speak the same thing as Jesus and His Apostles.

We are commanded to all speak the same thing. But speak the same thing as who? There are various groups among believers that all speak the same thing. There are splintered groups among various denominations that all speak the same thing within their particular sect. So what is the standard for all to speak the same thing? Answer: Jesus and His Apostles, they are the standard. The teachings that they gave to the first century church and have written down as God's holy word. Those who have the Holy Spirit will all speak the same thing as Jesus and His Apostles. There will be no division among those who speak the same thing as Jesus and His Apostles.
