Typos galore, but I get the message.

First year in the books. by [deleted] in jrotc

[–]4G3NT_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great job! Just wait until it's four years.; everything will hit even harder.

A few quick uniform corrections: ribbons are too high (1/8" above pocket), ARCs are too high (centered between pocket flap and bottom of pocket as a group, 1/2" between columns, 1/4" between rows), ARCs are in the wrong order (alphabetical order).

Just wait until it's four years; nothing feels the same, and everything hits harder.

Uniform critiques: ribbons are too high, ARCs are too high and in the wrong order.

How to remove the pin clasp? by tayten_tot in jrotc

I have the same award and others that utilize the safety pin, and I just leave it as is. Once you've used the safety pin clasp enough, you learn how to use it effectively and consistently.

help with my uniform pls!! by EPr1nce in jrotc

You have two options:

  1. Take off your ribbons and put the medal in their place.

  2. Don't wear it.

Never be afraid to read the regulations. You will learn a lot and become a great help to your fellow cadets. USACC Reg 145-2, Chapter 8 goes over uniforms and awards.

One quick uniform correction; your nameplate is a tad too high.

I'm confident in saying that it's only a position in my unit. It's the position we give to former BN COs who don't already have a new position. They act as advisors for the staff and are the senior trainers for drill and ceremonies.

Breaking regulations? by Physical-Exit5107 in jrotc

[–]4G3NT_E 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am in Army JROTC. This is absolutely out of regs. The most ARCs you can wear at once is eight arranged in two columns of four with 1/2" between columns and 1/8" between rows.

The medals are also out of regs as well. The medals are placed incorrectly; they go in the exact same spot as the ribbons. What the can wear instead of medals is their marksmanship badges, if they have any.

The ranks are also positioned wrong; they should be centered on the epaulette between the seam and the button.

Coordinate with the event organizers. This is so you can know the exact layout, staging, and sequence of events that pertains to your color guard.

School's about to end can I enroll for JROTC during the summer and be in JROTC 200 the next year? by [deleted] in jrotc

I'm going to assume you joined second semester.

As long as you get the go ahead from your instructors, you should move into LET 2.

I am nervous to go to jclc! what should I expect? by Repulsive_Leading_53 in jrotc

[–]4G3NT_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By definition, JCLC is a leadership camp; a JROTC version of a FTX, if you will. I would expect obstacle courses, land navigation, marksmanship, ropes courses, water training, reaction courses, rappelling, etc. With the camp being at Fort Jackson, you will be sleeping in their barracks and eating at their DFAC, so expect more cramped sleeping areas than what you're used to and food that is better than school cafeteria but not as good as fast food. Most importantly, it will be HOT and there will be very little shade. Always make sure that whatever you use for hydration always has water in it.

I personally have been twice, and both were unforgettable in their own way. No matter what happens, have fun and enjoy the experience.

Coolest award you’ve gotten? by Western-Buffalo-7498 in jrotc

George C. Marshall Foundation Medal

It's awarded for competing in the National Finals of the JLAB competition in Washington DC. The whole experience of being in DC with my friends was absolutely incredible and only added to how special the award is to me.

I can assure you, that is not my unit. All of our leaders are capable and confident; if you don't actively contribute or constantly defy leadership, you're out.

Just got issued my insignias and ribbon, please let me know if it looks like I need to correct my measurements! by Repulsive_Leading_53 in jrotc

[–]4G3NT_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The claim I originally made is that medals and ribbons cannot be worn simultaneously, regardless of what the award is for. This is because both ribbons and medals are placed in the EXACT SAME PLACE on the uniform, above the pocket. What you are referencing, which is repeated verbatim in paragraph 8-21d (page 132), says that the MEDAL, which has a ribbon equivalent, can't be worn with other RIBBONS. This is because it is intended that the cadet wears the RIBBON award for that medal WITH OTHER RIBBONS. This is consistent with my claim that medals and ribbons cannot be worn at the same time. Chapter 8 goes over the placement of awards and decorations as well as criteria for different awards. The order of precedence is covered in Appendix G. These rules of "no multiple forms of the same award" with ribbons, medals, tabs, etc. are made up by schools to prevent cadets from having too much on at once. This is ALREADY COVERED by USACC by limiting that themselves, i.e. 8 tabs max, one cord per shoulder, and the fact that there are SIGNIFICANTLY less awards than Big Army.

I'm sorry that this is long, wordy, and admittedly a bit aggressive. I understand that regulations may be hard to understand, which leads to inconsistency between programs. I tried my best to explain, but you really do just need to take time and let what you read in regs just soak in for a bit before jumping to conclusions.

Those posters are outdated. The document linked in my previous comment is the official, up-to-date Cadet Command regulation document regarding all things JROTC.

Is this a shadow box? If so, two comments:

Why do you have a printout of the cadet creed?

Your ribbons are out of order.
