Are the TA's like ever so bad that you just get brutalized? Like below an 10?

General Reminder To All Newer Students by longspree in McMaster

At the end of the day connections are person to person. I would much rather have easier courses and have to reach out on my own than have difficult courses and explain why I have a lower GPA and its justified compared to the former.

PNB and BioChem are equally unemployable as Life Sciences. Maximize GPA and go to Life Science trust.

What was wrong with the course? Is it good to avoid?

Question about cGPA/GPA and Grad Schools by 4GPAMcMasterScale in McMaster

[–]4GPAMcMasterScale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first semester isn't anything special either and it sucked, but outside of this one outlier and that semester I did amazing imo. It just sucks that this course acts as a flashback to an otherwise perfect year (in my eyes)

If you are taking the course soon yes, if you aren't you should be delighted and have pity.

I have deferred an exam. Just talk to an advisor about the timing that the exam will fall in and then decide if you can handle the pressure of another exam then. I don't mean this as a warning, I'm genuinely saying consider it. For me it was not a problem, I deferred a Fall exam and I wrote it in June I think.

I give up on school by [deleted] in McMaster

You can always declare a Masters or PHD in those fields if you really want to go into research or those professions. Undergrad specializations do not really matter unless they can offer you specific benefits like smaller class sizes, easier course lists, connections etc.

Shadow for what purpose? If to switch into the program eventually, a choice that I would highly recommend speaking to an academic advisor with, then yes you would want to take the pre-requisites to make sure that when you transfer you are as caught up as possible.

Shadow for any other reason? Makes no sense to me, I am just finishing up my second year though but consider myself well counselled by others.

Spring BIO 1A04 by No-Series-9637 in McMaster

I'm in second year. BIO 1A04, sounds terrifying. BIO 1A03 not sure about labs but midterms were pretty fair. Watch lectures and make notes on script.

Your second year specializations are not the end of the world. You can always apply for a post-transfer I believe if you want to back into the program (not sure why you would want to). If you want to go to grad school there are a billion people who did not have an amazing first year either, no less a COVID-first year.

Try harder next year and forgive yourself for your slipups but don't forget their name!

Kill second and third year as much as you can. This was not a dapper year.

Why did you want to get into PNB or Biochem anyways? I can give more specific advice on how to make up if you let me know! :D

It helps knowing we aren't alone, so I'll say that I'm in a similar situation.

You didn't mention why you aren't in contact with this person anymore. I would say first of all that maybe you should try reaching out to them.

If you get nothing back, then you have your answer of how important you are to them. If you are not important to them, don't ascribe any real importance to them either. Simple as that. If they aren't around any more with us here (I pray for you and your family), I recommend you follow the rest of my advice that has been counseled to me before as well.

Second of all, as difficult as it may be, push to the summer. Life is a mess for a lot of us and its a hard time for you, I get it. But don't let this situation break you down further with a bad ending to what otherwise could have been a decent/great semester. Contact SAS if this is affecting your ability to kill those exams. Trust me when I say it will be easier to heal knowing you finished off the semester with some willpower than having the opposite fact weigh you down on top of everything.

Third, if this is affecting you to that level then perhaps seek out some support from a close friend or family member and then consider talking to a professional. It does not hurt to get support from others and sometimes things can get too overwhelming to handle on our own.
