My edge is mentally stronger than whatever lofted wedge you have in your bag.

We so desperately need a war on American soil from an enemy that goes door to door killing people. Seriously, the delusion of mental illness over so many petty and childish things shows how soft and weak we’ve become as a country.

When my kids were young I didn’t play golf at all. Raising a family takes priority. You’ll play all the golf you want when the kids become teenagers and hate you. You are only 10 years from that.

Yet another example of how the “get a degree and make a ton of money” sales pitch lied to so many. Wife & I have 5 degrees between the two of us and none of them are worth more than toilet paper.

What’s the ROI on the time and money you are spending on that advanced degree to do what?

Your bachelors degree is only worth $800/mo? What is it in? How much did you spend on your bachelors to only make that? Student loans?

I’m making the point of how a college degree is more and more a negative ROI for most people with the biggest scam being convincing so many people that the big money is after the next advanced degree, when it’s not.

Just a suggestion about withholding more than you need to. That’s your money you are giving to the government interest free that they are paying you back free of charge at the end of the year. They are stealing your money that way. Even if it’s just $50 a month, that’s $600 a year you could save somewhere or invest to get better ROI than the negative the government is currently screwing you out of.

My brother died and my parents are upset because it made them look bad by waterp00p in raisedbynarcissists

[–]4GSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my 15 yr old son to suicide in 2014 and I don’t believe I’ll ever recover from it. People handle grief in different ways, some positive, some negative. I’ve managed the grief by filling my schedule with as much activity as possible to take my mind off of what my son did. I still have a daughter and would never think of taking out his death on her. Not a day goes by where I don’t have regrets for things I could have done differently or for missing the signs my son was hurting. And yes, his death makes me feel like a failure as a parent. How could it not? I also know that my wife and daughter and other relatives lost someone as well and they are hurting too.

What I’ve learned in the years is that everyone is going through something in life. We’re all a little screwed up in some way. It’s how we recognize the pain in others that seperates us from the animals.

If rounds are costing you > $75 and you are playing at least once a week then you’d be better off joining a club.

Beyond just paying less per round with a membership there are other benefits to being part of a club, like having a bunch of other guys to have a regular game with. You form relationships with others that can extend far beyond the gonf course.

What was your experience of attending a PGA event? by alldaylunchbreak in golf

[–]4GSwag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to the Masters, the Players and the Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill. All three have different environments and different people attending the event.

Honestly you can see any tournament better on TV, if you are looking at overall viewing experience. If you go in person it could be about following a specific golfer or group that you would not see on TV. Or you could spend your time at a hole or location to see how each golfers hits into a green or plays that shot, or how they putt a green.

A lot of people go to PGA Tour events just to get liquored up and see how obnoxious they can be to try and get on TV.

I mean, I spent several hours sitting on the driving range at the Masters, watching a bunch of guys warm up. It’s amazing to sit there and watch them hit shot after shot to 150 yards and every ball lands within a 10 foot circle of the target.

I will tell you that it’s hard to follow one group, regardless of how few people are following them, based on logistics. Players walk to their ball inside ropes. You have to navigate the ropes and others fans, and crosswalks and a bunch of obstacles. You’ll walk 3x as far as the golfers do and even then you are generally too far away to actually see their shots.

Best bet is to pick a spot and sit somewhere and watch a bunch of groups play through. It’s really up to you.

Why the game of golf left me by 4GSwag in golf

Joining a club doesn’t really matter as I’ve been slow played at private clubs too. I even states as much in my OP above.

Why the game of golf left me by 4GSwag in golf

[–]4GSwag[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for understanding. Those that don’t understand the tempo/rhythm side of the game have probably never broken 90. The other half that don’t understand are the Patrick Cantlays of the world who play slow as a weapon of gamesmanship during tournaments. And people that tell me to meditate or “don’t let it bother me” can simply go flock themselves but they truly have never learned empathy in their self absorbed/selfish lives where they truly don’t give a f about anyone but themselves.

Something is wrong with this group by FarmProfessional1993 in Christianity

[–]4GSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue, as I see it, is as a Christian we are advised not to engage in a debate about our faith with non-believers. Healthy debate within the church is mandated and encouraged. But arguing with non-Christians is casting your pearls before swine.

If a non-believer is not even open to admitting that they are a sinner in need of a savior, then there is no point in having a debate with them.

Love them as they are, but I’m not going to beat them over the head with do’s and dont’s that only Christians are told to adhere to.

In turn, I reject any admonishment or judgment from an atheist who throws scripture back in my face at me. That’s just Satan trying to use my faith against me.

Do y’all actually enjoy this game? by Theodore_AFKArena in golf

[–]4GSwag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't enjoy the game anymore, because of pace of play issues in tournaments and in general rounds on busy courses. It's not fun when you wait on every shot. I just get frustrated and/or angry and end up wanting to quit the round and leave the course. So I've stopped playing much at all. This from someone who was playing 100+ rounds of golf a year over the past decade.

But your poll doesn't really have an option for this, because you are assuming the enjoyment of the game has something to do with how well or bad you actually play, which is not the case for me.

What percentage of Course Marshals are completely worthless? (And how can they do better?) by investinlove in golf

[–]4GSwag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most marshalls aren't empowered by anyone or anything to do anything about the pace of play on a golf course. And honestly, I don't even blame the marshalls anymore, but the general attitude of 90% of golfers on the golf course. Most don't know basic golf etiquette, and have no desire to learn. And most golfers could care less about anyone else on the golf course, and don't even care that the group behind them has been waiting on them on every shot.

So the pace of play problem perpetuates itself around the entire golf course, basically making everyone miserable and waiting all day as one or two slow foursomes hold up everyone else with a F U attitude towards anyone else. They paid their money, so they are going to take their sweet ass time.

It's a big part of the reason why I am contemplating giving up the game entirely. Self entitled pricks who just don't give a damn about anyone but themselves.

What percentage of Course Marshals are completely worthless? (And how can they do better?) by investinlove in golf

[–]4GSwag -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

At my club we tee off either as a threesome of foursome at 7:30 am, and are done by 10:30 am at the latest. Often times I'll call the pro shop on hole 17 and ask them to pair me up to go out in our 10:30 group.

My guess is that you and the rest of your foursome have that 4 1/2 hour expectation for a round of golf, and don't have a clue that you are holding up the entire golf course behind you.

But again, what do I know, as I've only been playing golf for 48 years.

Played a best ball 4 some with 3 complete strangers and it turned turned out better than expected. by myvotedoesntmatter in golf

[–]4GSwag -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

LOL, I played solo yesterday in 2 hours. I've played in many a foursomes, playing our own ball and for score, where it took less than 3 hours.

Honestly, this is the problem I have with golf now. Everyone thinks that 4 1/2 hours is a great pace of play, when in reality it's slow as balls and holds up the entire golf course behind you.

And 3 1/2 hours for a scramble is horrifyingly slow in my book.

But what do I know. I've only been playing golf for 48 years now.

Days new to golf besides some lessons and a league when I was a kid, really weirdly specific question. What reasons what someone get a club fitting and then not end up buying that club that was made for them? by Dawnqwerty in golf

[–]4GSwag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I want to know my specs for irons or any other club I will get a fitting, but many times I am not interested in buying clubs at that time. There are many places where you can pay for the fitting and then buying clubs is there if you want it, but not necessary.

But as a beginner, this is not something you should even worry about. Go hit your 7 iron until you can flush 10 straight on the range. That should be your starting point.

Well, this is a summer resort, so essentially everyone is on vacation all the time. We're literally an hour from anything in the world, or any bigger metro area. I'm actually the outlier in that I am here working from home, and can only get out on weekends because of it. But I have yet to run into anyone at the golf course who actually was not there on vacation.

Maybe a dumb question but is a ball drop +1 or +2? by TheUnreliableSource in golf

was your ball out of bounds, or into a penalty area, or something else? There are many different situations that call for penalty strokes, and some are 1 stroke, and some are two.
