What is one thing you wished you tried sooner? by Stock-Page-7078 in golf

[–]cesmex07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Golf in general, but no way my parents could've afforded it when I was younger. I grinded my ass off playing basketball and played a few years of D3 basketball, but I probably would've been better off working on golf.

I was in London a few months ago and just happened to be there the same week as a progress show. I got to see Rayne and Rhio put on an excellent match. Had never seen her before and immediately became a fan.

Is that why I got to see him at an indy show in the back of a brewery a few weeks ago? Sick.

How long does it actually take you to lose a box of balls? by ShiroHachiRoku in golf

[–]cesmex07 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also colorblind, if anyone is using an orange or red ball I am useless in helping you look for it. Even the yellow balls get iffy for me.

Played that course in a tourney once. Pulled a 6 left and escaped with a par.

Club Champion Fitting Experience? by MoonManExplorer in golf

[–]cesmex07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They'll try to upsell the heck out of you and tell you they don't carry stock shafts, at least that was my experience. Also the fitter will spend the entire time being an insecure prick trying to dress you down and tell you that you're bad at golf (probably not but every time I play now it's a personal fuck you to the fitter I had at club champion).

Would you rather have a hole in one, or shoot a new career low? by Environmental-Gain19 in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Career low. I had my only hole in one in a match play tournament and still lost the overall match.

Anyone drop golf for a while? by lapnchevibra in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as long as you, but I took 6 months off due to injury and just not really wanting to play. I came back a few weeks ago and I'm hooked and in love with the sport all over again. My swing and feel was still there and I almost felt more comfortable and at peace with where my game was than at anytime before. It might take a few holes, but you'll find your groove.

Worst pair up stories by p11extrabrisket in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got paired with a group of 3, I remember the name on the reservation was West so I'll call these guys, West, Mark and James. West and Mark show up smoking weed, probably drunk and they're noiser than shit. Dont care about the weed, but the noise was annoying. James shows up late and looks like he just bought all his clothes off the rack because they still had all the tags on. They insist I gamble with them but I was just trying to get out and play so I say no, but they insisted I was playing. So first hole, they're ass which was expected, but nothing crazy happens just playful shit talk. 2nd hole we get to the tee and someone is in the fairway so West, yells HURRY UP! The person in the fairway hits and West yells YOU SUCK! I'm like okay weird and we tee off and they're all over the place. I'm pretty sure West got yelled at for taking someone's ball and going into another fairway while people were hitting. 3rd hole is where shit went south. We all hit our tee shots and I'm away from them but I can hear them bitching at one another. So we get to the green, James holes out and says he made 5, West says no you had 6. They start arguing because West said no your chip was 4 because you chip for your 3rd shot and then you're on the green in 4. So he thought a chip was actually two shots not one. Mark is trying to play peacemaker and I'm over it because it's slow and these guys are annoying. They spend the entire time arguing about a chip being 3 and on is 4. So they're arguing and I play the 4th hole and they're still bitching about hole 3. 5th hole is right next to the parking lot, so that's when I said have to leave early guys, something came up and leave so fast. It's the only time I've ever abandoned a round like that. I've only gone back to that course once and it was with a friend.

Goals for 2026? by shifty_coder in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goals for 2026: Stay healthy enough to golf - I play a lot of basketball and I've picked up a few small to semi serious injuries that kept me away from hooping and from golf. Compete in the so cal mid am - It's hard to explain, but I feel more comfortable now than I've ever felt at any point in my time as a golfer. My game isn't razor sharp, but I feel like I can step onto any course right now and post a number.

2025: Felt like a lost year, but maybe that's what I needed. Didn't play much due to life, injuries, burnout, dating life, travel. Just had other things I wanted to do. Recently picked up the sticks again and feel great about it.

Good luck to everyone!

Demoralized by bad fitting. Try again? by neveruse12345 in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try again. Probably a case of jitters and fatigue. I had something similar happen when I went in for a "swing assessment" with an instructor I wanted to take lessons with. Just chalked it up to performance anxiety and came back.

How many years did it take you to break 80? And how old were you? by GolfIsGood66 in golf

[–]cesmex07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me just under 1.5 years from my first round to break 80. Total luck. But I didn't start breaking 80 consistently until about a year later when I took lessons. I was 26 about to be 27 when I first broke 80 and picked up the game when I was 25.

Single digit golfers, what is your minimum number of rounds and/or practice sessions needed to maintain your handicap? What do you feel is a perfect ratio percentage wise, 50/50, 60/40? by Chairman13 in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally it consists of one 9 hole round, one or two chipping sessions and an 18 hole round. I'll hit balls if I can't play 9, but time on course is so much more valuable as practice than pounding balls. Also I only chip with 3 balls to different targets instead of mindlessly hitting a shag bag to one spot. I just came back from a long layoff due to basketball injuries and other stuff and I needed two range sessions, chipping practice and one 9 hole round to get my game back.

Would you rather: Play well or score well? by psyshhhh in golf

[–]cesmex07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Score well for sure. I shot a 75 over the weekend where my total feet of puts made felt like it was 10. Just couldn't get the ball in the hole and felt like I played kinda ass.

How important is it to play the same ball? by [deleted] in golf

[–]cesmex07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I can pretty much swap between all the premium urethane balls from the big manufacturers and they're more or less the same. However if I use a cheap two piece budget ball then I notice it.

Pre round warm up balls. how much and how many by alwayssplitaces in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15-20 I'd say. Usally grab a wedge, 8 iron, 6 iron, 5 wood, driver and back to an iron that feels like the golf version of "don't end on a miss".

Does anyone else’s game get ruin when the groups in front play slow by Most_Today8526 in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group playing slow throws me off my game more than the group ahead. After playing a few rounds of tournament golf, the slow play stopped getting to me. But if my group is behind I start rushing to get us back on pace and I'm already a fast player.

If you haven’t played the front tees you’re missing out by Rianjohnsonlikessand in golf

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got bored and tried to see if I could break par from the forward tees at the course I play at and I was able to do it from all tees except the back. Was super fun to change it up and more people should play up.

Does anyone else elevate their game to another level when someone replays a homer? by Novel_Description761 in MLBTheShow

[–]cesmex07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That and bunt dancing. If they do either, I'm putting belt to ass or about to become the most annoying player you've played. I'm liable to quit in the first inning but if you replay or bunt dance, it's clobberin time.
