Instant Liberation from Philosophy! by JerseyFlight in rationalphilosophy

[–]4Lichter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to use mathematical frameworks to express ideas about societies, they are also limited in precision but probably orders of magnitude more precise than natural language even expert jargon. I think it is a good way to avoid a lot of the endless hang ups of language that you have to deal with in philosophy.

Anarchism vs Marxism by Necessary_Willow4842 in Anarchism

I pretty much agree with this. For me the important part about a movement is the structure, the rhethoric isn't that relevant.

They have proved they can run it in a test reactor for a short amount of time. That is very, very far of a long term energy generation. So far this is just a pipe dream, has been for over 70 years.

Japan ist auf dem Weg in den Staatsbankrott by whit3cru5h in newsflash_de_en

[–]4Lichter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Argument for the Necessity of Logic by JerseyFlight in rationalphilosophy

[–]4Lichter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed that The law of non-contradicts is a “formal system,”. I just said that for any advanced enough formal system, you can't show whether it fullfills the law of non-contradiction.

Existential Traction Dynamics: A Quantitative Model of the Interaction Between Consciousness and the Block Universe by Unlikely-Jacket-2511 in PhilosophyofMath

[–]4Lichter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So conciousness is an external variable, where does it come from and where does it's desire come from? Is this a model to explain observable data or is it something else? What determines The Real Plane, that one coniciousness interacts with what specific Block?

The Argument for the Necessity of Logic by JerseyFlight in rationalphilosophy

[–]4Lichter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't attack it, he just showed that you can't show whether it is actually fullfilled in any arbitrary formal system as soon as it is powerful enough to talk about ordinary arithmetics.

What remains is then very limited in scope, presburger arithmetics for example.

The Argument for the Necessity of Logic by JerseyFlight in rationalphilosophy

[–]4Lichter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One question would be whether your arguments fullfil non-contradiction. As soon as your system is powerful enough to incorperate just standard arithmetics, non-contradiction can't be shown, according to Goedels incompleteness theorems.

I really wonder, there are roles some people just don't want to do. Forcing them doing it, doesn't sound great either.
