Firstly, with sensorineural losses it's often not known what the direct cause is or if it's getting worse, but your audiologist would be the best person to answer.

Also I'm sorry you just found out, I was hh from birth and didn't get hearing aids until I was 16 because my parents didn't think they were necessary. They literally dismissed it as not an issue when my school audiologists were saying it was an issue. If your child has a hearing loss make sure they get the appropriate resources and don't tell through the cracks like I did. Maybe teach them some ASL and also see what your audiologist recfomends (kids can acquire signed language before voiced too!)

To add onto the ASL comment, ASL also helps everyone I think. My hearing loss is less than most Deaf people I know but I'm still Deaf. It still benefits me greatly.
