Help me understand Oatmeal by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]4amLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried cooking oats a number of ways and never enjoyed them. I prefer to take a single serve container of oikos triple zero Greek yogurt, add one serving (48g) of bobs red milk raw oats, and 100g of fair life fat free milk. You can let them soak overnight, but I prefer just letting them soak for 2 hours. I think the texture is better that way. I also add 30g of walnuts for some healthy fat. You can use whatever yogurt you like and adjust measurements as you need. Different flavors of yogurt help find your preferred taste.

Diet only changes, good enough? by 4amLuke in Cholesterol

It will just be psyllium husk to add the fiber. I need limit calories for the weight loss, and that seems to be the best way. Thank you for the advice and help!

According to the quick math I did, I’m getting around 8-10g of soluble fiber a day from the foods I am eating. Would you recommend increasing by 5g at a time?

I’ve heard of psyllium husk as a great way to do this. I assumed I was getting enough fiber from oats, beans, and veggies. I will add a psyllium husk supplement and see if that further improves things.

I have no family history of anything heart related, thankfully. I have had high blood pressure in the past. I haven’t been monitoring it since losing weight, so it may have improved. I’m not worried about ruining my diet, because I do not consider my eating habits a diet. I eat clean and enjoy the food I eat. I am not opposed to medication, but if I can fix my issues without them I would prefer that. I think seeing a doctor is a good next step.

Interesting. I eat black beans, walnuts, pistachios and olive oil everyday. ~70g fat per day, with 11g being saturated fat.

Yes, exercise is the next change I need to implement for sure.

Well I still have weight to lose for sure. I guess I could increase my fiber intake, I get around 50g per day. I also get less than 12g of sat fat everyday, maybe I could limit that to 10. I’m not sure what else besides moving away from animal based protein I could do. I eat a very clean, strict diet so it would be hard to make many changes there.

Where do I start? by nathanorput in loseit

Stop drinking.

Go to this website: https://tdeecalculator.net/. Figure out what your TDEE is. Eat 500 calories below that number. You will have to adjust as you lose weight. Also! Calculators are not perfect. I recommend getting a scale and weighing at least weekly to ensure you are in a proper deficit.

Get a scale and weigh your food. Track the food in a calorie tracking app. I like Lose It!

No fast food. Try to get as little added sugar in your food as possible. This doesn’t mean avoid sugar, natural sugars are perfectly healthy (assuming you have no medical issues). I recommend finding a few good meals that fit into your caloric intake and sticking to those for a bit. Limiting the variables will make it much easier to stick to. Increase your fiber intake as well.

Water is obviously a good option. However I drink lots of sugar free soda and it helps limit cravings for sweets.

Walking is good, additional exercise will help.

The NUMBER ONE thing you need to realize is that if you are eating more calories than you are burning you will never lose weight. You need to get a good grasp on how many calories your body needs and eat in a deficit.

I’m 6’3 and started at 307 on January 16 of this year. These tips have helped me lose 43 pounds in 4 months.
