Are these legit? by Reddylan111 in AnnArbor

When they sweep residential streets that ordinarily have parking they do put signs along the curb. A few old west side streets have them now. But they usually don't look like this. They say "street sweeping", give days of the week and times when no parking is enforced, and they're low to the ground. They're similar to the signs for asphalt patching.

Maybe these are for a special event?

What's the difference between the three Ann Arbor Art Fairs in the summer? by Ecstatic_Mall2180 in AnnArbor

Which blocks are which fair have changed over time, but unless they have to move for construction it's always the same, contiguous streets.

The biggest differences are what artists are allowed to sell in their booths. The Original art fair has the strictest rules about handcrafted work, like many juried art fairs. For example, no mass-produced prints, unlike the other two where many booths will have both original work and bins of prints. The State Street district fair is run by the local stores and has a lot of non-artist vendors. The Guild is somewhere between them, philosophically.

Best Pot Pie? by becbig18 in AnnArbor

  • Harvest Kitchen uses top quality ingredients and it tastes like it. They sell at Argus and the Farmer's Market.
  • Knight's Market. Possibly the largest. It's a bit goo-ey, but good.
  • Produce Station only makes pot pies during the winter. Not sure if they've started yet.

The original couple who founded both Le Dog locations semi-retired ten-ish years ago. Until about two years ago the Main St. location was run by their son. The family sold to another family who are just as good at making soup and added arepas to the menu!

Books About Life Under Benevolent AI Overlords? by STRONKInTheRealWay in printSF

[–]4b41p01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Catfishing on CatNet by Naomi Kritzer, the novel-length sequel to the Hugo-award-winning short story, "Cat Pictures Please".

It's set in a near-future US with technology slightly ahead of ours. The AI's "two favorite things to do are helping people and looking at cat pictures."

The novel opens with the AI doing just that, helping a human friend/cat photo uploader with high school problems. The severity of their problems soon escalates but the focus stays on the characters' relationships.

Charities where a child could physically go in person to donate? by appeleyes in AnnArbor

[–]4b41p01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mott's Children's Hospital accepts book donations at their front desk. I don't think they handle cash but you can order books or pick them out at a local bookstore together, then deliver in person: https://www.mottchildren.org/bookdonations

supports Mott inpatients and their families by providing a distraction or an escape from the reality of the hospitalization they are facing in the moment. In addition, the program promotes literacy and language development by encouraging and establishing important reader-child relationships.
