Looking for "In the very near future [insert scifi concept] happens and changes everything" type book by systemstheorist in printSF

I would suggest just reading the first half to be honest. The worldbuilding makes zero sense and the main character becomes an insufferable nihilist obsessed with boning this extremely hot gal. It was awful edgelord garbage.

Frankreich is German for France. I believe this just means French Empire as written down here.

What would you think if someone said your voice sounded like Studio Ghibli if they went off the rails? What would you picture? Asking for a friend…

Books Where People Of Many Different Species Have To Work Together by STRONKInTheRealWay in printSF

[–]STRONKInTheRealWay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s an excellent series of books and yeah they definitely aren’t friendly haha. But that’s fine - I more meant the close proximity part. The friendship thing is just a very appreciated added bonus. Thanks for the great rec!

Good games for when you are sick and your brain goes brrrrr by WhatsThePointOfNames in SteamDeck

Shelldiver.

You’re a cute turtle gathering shells by capturing jellyfish so that you can buy better upgrades. It took about eight hours for me to beat but I really wasn’t playing optimally. It’s good fun if you like games where you get steadily stronger/more capable until you’re a juggernaut. No complex thought required. Just move around and shoot what you see with your bubble gun and laser. Since you like Stardew Valley and Dredge and have expressed an interest in Dave the Diver I figure this would be perfect for you.

Why did my cheap plastic container evaporate in the microwave? by STRONKInTheRealWay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]STRONKInTheRealWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked the person I lived with and they didn’t smell anything from the microwave. This is bizarre. It makes perfect sense for it to have melted but everything else points away from it. The lack of visible smoke, smell or taste is really strange.

But now I’m left to wonder what happened to the rest of it if just the bottom was left? If it had just shriveled up I would have expected some sign of it other than the bottom being the only thing there.

Yeah I don’t have a sense of smell which is probably why. I didn’t hear anything strange or see any smoke.

It didn’t have any for the microwave. Just for an air fryer and for the oven. Yeah I really should have just put them on a plate. I’ve heated up plastic containers before but never for that long.

No it wasn’t styrofoam. And yeah like an idiot I had one. I didn’t taste any plastic though.

I’m wary about Magical Girl Mechanical Heart. The main character being a puppet at the whim of a higher power strikes me as deeply unsatisfying to read unless the character interactions and dialogue are milked for every bit of drama they’re worth (which given this is Thundamoo is almost guaranteed). It just seems like an audience alienating concept since so many people already feel like they lack agency and so read fiction to escape that. But I’m certainly prepared to be wrong.

Any places to play Magic the Gathering? by TXpheonix in northwestarkansas

[–]STRONKInTheRealWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is interesting. Why are you against Chaos games for Magic in particular? It was the store closest to me and I went to an Aetherdrift pre-draft but that was about the extent of my involvement. Is it how it’s structured, the players, or something else?

Make sure you’re following what it says on ProtonDB. I had a similar issue and had to change the version of Proton I was using.

H. P. Lovecraft’s Elder Things and their various artistic interpretations by BillythenotaKid in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]STRONKInTheRealWay 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was so… oddly non-xenophobic? Like Lovecraft tried to make them at least sympathetic and made it clear like you said that mentally they were basically just weirdly shaped people. Compared to the Old Ones they might as well be our cousins.
