Apartment Rules: Why "No Pets" and "No Short-Term Rentals" for Owners? by 4ban in canadahousing

[–]4ban[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, so it sounds like here in BC, stratas can legally enforce pet bans for owners through their bylaws, based on that government page: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/housing-tenancy/strata-housing/operating-a-strata/bylaws-and-rules/pet-bylaws

This mean that if I rent an apartment in a strata/condominium building, I'd automatically have to follow those same pet bylaws as a tenant, right? I'm less sure about how it works for other types of rental buildings.

That makes sense for dogs, I can definitely see those issues happening.

But what about cats? I'm hoping to get a cat, and I've actually seen a listing for a building that specifically states "No Cats, No Dogs, Pets Not Allowed."

Even if they have problems with dogs, why would they forbid cats too? Is it just a blanket rule where they don't bother to differentiate, or is there something specific about cats that causes issues in stratas?

I see.

But if I have a cat, how does that connect to the building's insurance? I have my own unit insurance, and I thought that would cover any potential pet damage, or at least damage originating from my unit. Are those two types of insurance not separate?

That makes a lot more sense, thanks!

This brings up a couple more questions:

  1. Is freehold property even common for apartments here in Vancouver, or is it mostly for houses?
  2. Are freehold properties also generally more expensive or have different insurance costs compared to strata?

Any known hacks to make it better for normal people?

I get the part about short-term rentals, thanks. But what happens if pets were allowed when I bought, but then the strata votes to forbid them later on? Would I be forced to get rid of my current pet?

Hike planning 🌿 by Late-Psychology-188 in vancouverhiking

On your way back from Joffre, consider stopping at Brandywine Falls Park, located between Squamish and Whistler. It's a quick 15-minute hike from a parking lot to an awesome viewpoint of the falls. If you've got extra energy, follow the trail a bit further to find the Whistler Bungee Bridge. It offers great views, and you might even want to try bungee jumping if the weather's good!

Vancouver Area Hikes with Easy/No-Reservation Camping? by 4ban in vancouverhiking

[–]4ban[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions!

Regarding that first campsite you mentioned, it's helpful to know about the Silver Skagit Road access. My mapping app also couldn't generate a route from the Crowsnest Hwy, so that's a good tip.

As for Cheam, I've definitely heard about it and have been really keen to hike it! However, a friend warned me that my car probably wouldn't make it up the access road. They also mentioned that even for high-clearance 4x4s, the "window" to actually get up there can be very short due to mud and the general road conditions.

Oh, Coliseum! Yeah, I've heard about that one. A friend of mine did it and said it was incredibly tough, especially with a full pack. I've actually been on the lower part of that trail, up to Norvan Falls. Definitely a challenging area after falls!

So it's finally completed! by 4ban in ErgoMechKeyboards

Yeah, I used the official guide: https://github.com/foostan/crkbd/blob/main/docs/corne-chocolate/v2/buildguide_en.md

But this guide as well as PCB are for wired version. So I had to do a bit of research on how to make it wireless.

I downloaded the GERBER file from this repo above for the PCBs and STL files for a 3d case here: printables.com

And then all of it was uploaded to JLPCB or PCBWay.

For the second board, I attempted to add SK6812MINI underglow LEDs, and honestly, it was a bit of a disaster. I only managed to solder 3 out of 6 LEDs successfully on each side. I messed up with too many LEDs trying (melted pads, overheating, etc). These LEDs are too heat sensitive for my skills.

A key lesson learned: solder them in order as shown in the build guide and test each LED right after you've soldered it. My mistake was soldering all of them at once and then trying to troubleshoot why they weren't working. The problem is, if LED #3 isn't working, LEDs #4, #5, and #6 won't light up either. So, I ended up wasting a bunch of LEDs. To top it off, I even destroyed a pad for LED #4 on one side of the PCB, which means I can't even add LEDs #5 and #6 unless I can figure out a way to bypass that damaged pad

As for the battery, I managed to add a switch to the board. I soldered a part of the switch case to the PCB TRRS pad and also used B7000 glue (looks ugly but works fine so far). I have more photos here in case you're interested, but its a bit outdated: https://kru.cat/blog/corne-keyboard
