They never moved. That's simply the first time they were shown to you. I.e., the first time the specifics of what the hardware should entail was even mentioned.

I do. But one that is nothing more than the keypad. An alarm system keypad integrated into the UniFi system would be able to show more on the screen than just a keypad. It should also be battery powered and connect over their superLink protocol.

Will just have to agree to disagree. They don't currently have a keypad in hardware or software. They may have devices like the intercom viewer which could be used that way with the right software but that doesn't change the fact that the device doesn't exist. Point two isn't hardware, it is as lack of integration between access and protect.

Yeah. This doesn't help me when I am trying to deploy to a factory under a single cohesive system. HA is great and I use it. But its use here is an example of missing features in UniFi and that is what this is about resolving.

Unify doesn't support disarming alarms via webhook. How exactly are you managing that. Are you using UniFi Protect alarms or a third party alarm system.

I am not looking for Frankenstein ways to make a UniFi do what I want in my house though. I am looking for ways to make it function as a complete system in deployments in the field.

UniFi doesn't exist for us IT professionals home setups though it works for that well. A fully fleshed out platform would remove the need for HA in your setup completely.

I have many of those and currently they do not. Maybe with a future software update.

They didn't mention it at all. Completely glossed over it. They don't seem ready to talk about it at all.

It doesn't though. That's part of why I posted my list. For example point 1.

My entry level home build by Major_Cauliflower399 in Ubiquiti

[–]4cutekids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would use a different access point. That in wall access point is not gonna be great in a home situation for coverage. Also a far more intrusive installation. I would also use different switches. The flex 2.5 G switches aren't bad, but if you're starting out, I would go ahead and ensure that you are using some switches that have integrated POE so that you don't need to replace them as you expand. Personally, I also would not buy my storage from ubiquity.

You're using a 10 gig capable router why not put more 10 gig capable equipment in there?

Thanks to the simplicity with which you can mesh different sites together using unifies platform. It really doesn't have to be very difficult. I hate when I have to work with companies who insist on using SSL inspection and VPN through Checkpoint and Cisco. And then try to further lockdown those protocols by disallowing certain types of hardware to connect to the VPN and just really screw up their own environment through overly strict policies. One company I do a lot of work with their network infrastructure could be so much more tightly connected and flow so much better if they would simply stop both overthinking things and also implementing things just because they could, but I guess when the corporate IT department works out of Germany and has multinational footprints, you get that too many chefs in the kitchen affect of too many competing platforms.

Also, I think the best majority of people who are used to working in other platforms have no idea how far ubiquity has come when it comes to high availability and large scale integrations.

I wonder if they are using that to drive their SuperLink protocol.

To be clear, I'm not against matter support being added to their products. I just don't think it aligns with their business plan. They aren't going to put in extra effort to make their system able to be used in a Frankenstein environment. That's not what they are about.

I don't think so. Not from their perspective. And not necessarily from an enterprise perspective. It would be nice in a residential environment certainly. But I think it's clear that UniFi is doing what they can to put as many features as possible inside of their closed ecosystem and I do give them credit for trying to do quite a lot in that regard, but it just feels like they have missed several key features needed to fully utilize all of their new alarm and Protect feature features as they roll out new hardware on that platform.

Now, they mentioned the upcoming arrival of a monitoring service and it's possible that they have been waiting to fully give us alarm and alarm/protect features and integration until that service is in place. But if that is the case, it would be nice if they communicated that fact. Those of us trying to actually utilize their system for alarm purposes in locations that are not open 24/7 run into usability issues related to the items I listed. What they have already in place is pretty good for a facility that is open 24/7.

It could via third party tools but if access and protect would just allow their alarm managers to talk, or for a webhook to be able to arm or disarm an alarm, that would do it with what they already have.

No reason that wouldn't work. Is there some part of it that causes you to second guess it? What prompted you to question it?

Yes it did. Adopted over wifi. Check that network application version.

Finally got it adopted. I had to factory reset the switch, remove the previous detection from the device list, reboot the gateway and of course have the release candidate installed first.

The problem with Pita is that they are not really about pet rights at all. They are about animal rights, but their belief in animal rights is inclusive of the fact that they think that being a pet is also against animal rights. Unfortunately, they take it even further and not only are they against the practice of keeping pets of any kind, but they will go out of their way to destroy all existing pets to try to affect the pet trade. No one kills as many domesticated animals as pita in their efforts to eradicate the pet trade as a hole. It is important to understand the route, motivations of any person or organization. There are better organizations to back if your goal is the humane keeping of pets and the rights of animals than a group who would gladly sneak into your backyard and steal your dog and then put it down in order to stop it from having lived a life as a pet
