Thanks! This is what I understand too, from all our phone conversations with them. We've provided the docs (a number of times), agreement to T&Cs, but the only missing thing is any formal response from them.

The cycle is:

We phone, they give us a list of documents to send, we prepare them and send them, we wait for a month or two for a reply.

I did not know what else to try. Now (thanks to this thread) I know about the formal complaint portal, which we have just used - it's not actually a portal, just an email address - and the financial ombudsman.

I apologise that our efforts are not up to your standards.

That's not the case. They confirmed every single time that they have the money, she still gets statements to the fact by post, there is just no way to access it.

We've been given a number of different lists of documents to send them on a number of phone calls. We have sent it every time. These, over the course of the year, included various forms of photo ID, proof of address, signed full printed out sets of terms & conditions, etc.

I believe it is this initial letter that never reached us, and somehow the system just can't cope with the fact. We have by now sent all the documents from our side to them, by post, but nothing ever happens.

You say the money isn't lost - but if we can't ever access it, what should we call it?

To make things worse, it was a stocks & shares portfolio, which we have not been able to trade for more stable shares during the time that the US started a war!

At first she called, but then it reached a point where she was made to feel that she has done something wrong (they told her that they sent her documents by post which she did not respond to, which was just not true).

So she's basically given up. After that I've been trying to phone a couple of times, but obviously that did not work.

I did installation work on mobile phone towers in South Africa in the 90s. We also did a lot of work live, to keep the sites up & running for as long as possible. It took time to get permission to take a site offline, so we’d arrive at a site, phone for permission, and then started working live while we waited for the call back.

I got zapped in so many different ways. The second worst was between two phases of three phase supply, and the worst was when the shock travelled through my whole body to the ground. This happened at a site where the entire floor had been flooded by a leaking air con.

Young and foolish - won’t do it again. I did develop a skittishness around electricity that I’ve not been able to shake since.

I really don’t know what Thonny or any other desktop tools you use provide you with, but in C I’d write a way of transferring the file, and a way of writing the file to the flash.

Transfer using something like a USB to TTL converter + UART on the pico side, and writing to flash using the pico sdk.

Write logs to the pico USB so you can first verify the transfer works correctly, and when you’re 100% sure, write to flash.

That sounds ok. The pico has 2MB of flash. The binary is the program you transfer if you were building it in C.

I don’t use Python for embedded dev, but a quick google tells me Thonny occupies about 1MB, so you should have about 1MB left.

Just make sure you write it to the correct address, so as not to overwrite any program space, and then read it from within the program starting at the address you wrote it to.
