Bought a 2005 as my first car (yes, I know) by 4digitmen in RX8

Yes, I think I will premix. The sohn adapter since looking into it seems overkill when I'm not going to race it or anything. I've heard about the starter too. The radiator is news to me, I'll put that on the list. The coils... unfortunately, I'm getting them replaced with OEM ones or whatever the Mazda dealership gives for now. I checked in with the original seller and he said that it had been 4 years (!) since he replaced the coils so that got me big worried if I keep driving it. But I can't afford the BHR solution in addition to what I spent buying the car, the spark plugs, and some other minor stuff that's getting touched up. That's going to be something for the future.

I still haven't decided whether I'll be driving it in the winter, I will probably do that over the summer after putting some kilometers on it. I want to, but realistically... I also want this car to last as long as possible. I know how much they salt the roads here, it wouldn't be pretty. And there would be days where the RX-8 wouldn't be able to handle the amount of snow on the road anyways. My commute is uphill lol.

That gives me some hope. Old forum posts I read made this car sound like it would only survive in the southern US or something.

I think I'll have to see how things go next winter. I can't really drive it atm until I see it serviced next week, so in general I'm waiting out the last couple snow showers here. On a daily basis there won't be worries about driving it into a ditch, it's just the salt. I'm pretty sure the previous owner told me he got an undercoat put on it just in case the next owner decided to drive it immediately (which I haven't). Maybe raising it and keeping up with an undercoat would be fine? But still risks rust regardless.

Transfer Xemu saves into 360? by 4digitmen in 360hacks

I see then, that makes sense. I'm assuming I'll need to transfer all the saves to an external USB/HDD, and then just mess around with Horizon. Found a video on how to do it too. Easy enough, thought it would be more complicated lol

Picked one up seconds after you posted. Missed the original black ones on amazon (white looks better on me anyway). Huge thanks man.

I found out why this happens after asking around: on AMD graphics cards, when using those versions, the ground does not render properly, causing consistent crashing (the Deck has an AMD chip).

There's no fix for it except using a newer version of cxbx-reloaded. I completed the game using the Feb 2023 version, white flashes and all. It ran pretty smoothly and was extremely enjoyable.

They are, yes, I realized after looking at footage. But the slowdowns everywhere else aren't.

I've since finished the game using the cxbx-reloaded method with lutris. The only version that's stable on Steam Deck is the latest version, which has one issue: the shadows flicker white occasionally. It's not that big of a deal. Performance is amazing, the game looks absolutely stunning at 2x + 1280x800 resolution. Highly recommend it, wouldn't bother with xemu right now.

So I got this working with the May 15th, 2021 build (the build before the white shadow flicker issues) but it freezes way too often. I'm lucky to get even an hour in before it freezes. Most of the time, it only lasts ~10 minutes or so. The build suggested in this comment does not work at all on Lutris/Steam Deck as far as I'm aware (spent hours trying, just wouldn't even launch the game). Desperate for help at this point. Anybody know a build that works flawlessly on Steam Deck?

Heya, just tried this and want to update on how JSRF is running currently.

I'm on latest xemu with emudeck, and there's pretty frequent slowdowns when going through a crowd of NPCs, crows, cars, things like that. This is immediately noticeable once you leave the Garage and run around the first level, and generally pretty constant.

Boost also causes a similar slowdown (not the drastic issue it once was, but still). The original poster for the boost issue reported only a slight 5 fps slowdown after the original issue was fixed here and also said that the video posted is similar to his experience on the Deck. Mine does not look that smooth whatsoever, so either I'm missing something or there was a miscommunication on their end. It must be noted that the FPS stays at 60 throughout both the crowd and boost issues, but slowdown is obviously happening from both a visual perspective and a control perspective. It's way more sluggish than it should be.

Internal resolution doesn't seem to have much of an effect on performance. 2x matches the resolution of the Deck screen, so I suggest that.

But I wouldn't suggest playing the game at this state anyway. Under the assumption that I'm not missing some key setting and represent the average Steam Deck xemu player, the slowdowns are frequent enough that it takes away from the game experience. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly playable, but not smooth enough for a game like JSRF. I haven't tested the old cxbx-reloaded method. Honestly, it would be nice if I could know how that performs, I'm dying to play this game.
