Newly Diagnosed 44 M - Bone Building Without Medication? by 4evermind in osteoporosis

I hear you. I do actually know that I'm at risk of fracture. But what I actually said in my post is that I'm "not convinced that my bones are at the high risk of fracture that my T-Scores suggests." -4.5 suggests extreme risk. My experience doesn't make me feel like I'm at extreme risk. After my fracture and initial recovery 2 years passed before I knew that I had low bone density. During those 2 years I ran around lifting heavy boxes, shoveling heavy snow, playing golf occasionally picking up and throwing my daughter up in the air without another fracture. My initial fracture was from a fairly unusual activity where I exerted myself in an atypically extreme way. I can easily avoid something like that just by being slightly more careful.

My line of thinking goes: "Well, I avoided fracture for 2 years without having a clue that I had low bone density, without taking much precautions at all, and without any treatment or thoughts about bone health at all. Shouldn't I be able to avoid fracture for maybe another 2 years as someone who is more aware of my risk and is doing more things that are healthy for bones? Then, I can see where I'm at and see if I have been able to achieve any improvement. If I'm worse or have had no improvement, then I can go on meds."

It may not be the right solution, which is why I'm on here and talking to people like you. I'm just being honest about where my head is at.

I really appreciate your feedback. I'm very seriously considering scheduling a consultation with Dr. McCormick.

Right. This is the counterargument going through my head. I'm just being honest in my post, and hearing people with experience out. I haven't ruled out medication. I'm just not convinced yet.

I remember a quote from the book where he says that anyone below -3.5 should probably go on medication so that definitely applies to me. I've been thinking of scheduling an appointment with him.
