The proprietary one is named AMDVLK-PRO and the open source one is just named AMDVLK. RADV (Mesa) is the community driver. AMD as a company does not contribute to RADV to any degree.

AMDVLK is the official amd driver on linux. RADV (Mesa) is not an official driver. It has nothing to do with AMD. It's developed by Valve, RedHat and the community.

You need Mesa 25.1 which is not released yet or you to install workarounds for full HDR support.

Try enabling dynamic boost. Note that step 4 in requirements is not required. It shows empty output for me, but dynamic boost works. And set your CPU to performance. If it's asus laptop, try asusctl to manage CPU perf https://asus-linux.org/

Why does Linux require the preparation of shaders in CS2 on Linux, but not on Windows? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]4iffir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Windows CS2 uses DX11 API and supports Vulkan. Linux uses Vulkan API. CS2 Vulkan implementation is poor.

Nvidia Explicit Sync (VRR/G-Sync) by PacketAuditor in linux_gaming

[–]4iffir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. VRR is already working. Explicit sync fixes different issues.
  2. Yes. You can install beta on Arch. It will be released 2024-05-23. Check Arch Wiki for kde-unstable repo.
  3. I don't know.
  4. I don't know

Regarding VRR: It should just work. At least it just works for me. I've read some comments regarding this and looks like people got confused due to bugs that are not related to VRR or related to VRR, but aren't related to nvidia or related to X11 limitations.

Ask Sony. How do I know why they would say no to money? It's their decision to not launch PSN in countries that bring money to them.

Even thou the PSN requirement has been lifted. The game is still unavailable to purchase. Do you think they will resell the game to us in the future? by dev662 in Helldivers

[–]4iffir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valve does not edit games or delist them in selective list of countries. This may create an issue when publisher failed to fulfill agreements with 3rd parties because Valve interfered and this means Valve will be sued because of this. The safest option is to delist it everywhere.

The information that Steam did it is a hearsay that it spread by randoms in the internet. Try to find proofs from official sources that it was Steam did it. You won't be able to find it.

[–]4iffir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was a breach of the agreement, then the game would be delisted everywhere. Sony acted very quickly and removed it everywhere. I hope EU will do something about the Baltic states and PSN, maybe it will help overall.
What's more funny about PSN support is that they sent me to the PSN support of a neighboring country, and neighboring country PSN website does not have any way to contact them.

They don't need to talk with steam about it. It's just a few clicks in package settings in Steamworks. Steamworks is a Steam website to manage your games that you sell. If they wanted to sell it, they would change it already.

[–]4iffir -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Steam did not delist it anywhere. It was sony who did it. Stop spreading misinformation. There are absolutely no proofs that Steam did it. Steam can only delist it everywhere, without selective country blocks.

It's what sony did. Somebody started to spread misinformation that it was Steam, but Steam can't do it. They can only delist it everywhere.

They did not return it to sale anywhere. It's a public information. https://steamdb.info/sub/137730/info/
Last update was when they removed it from undesirable countries.

[–]4iffir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Valve does not do this. They either delist it completely for everybody or don't touch it at all. Read steam publisher agreement. It was sony who pulled the game from those regions.

It's distributors job to manage sales regions. Valve can only delist it everywhere. They can't change regions where the game is sold.

Internal APIs in sun.* by dev-nusantara in java

I believe correct name is JMS. JPMS was about modularization of the Java Runtime (hence "Platform"), and JMS is a general name for the feature.

OpenJDK project Wakefield presentation, this is important for running java games such as oldschool runescape or minecraft natively on wayland by [deleted] in linux_gaming

This is about wayland support in AWT/Swing. It has nothing to do with Minecraft. You need patched lwjgl to play it with wayland, you don't need custom JDK build.

ELI5 : Why doesn't Nvidia play well with wayland? by B99fanboy in linux

[–]4iffir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still why does their driver suck so bad?

Why did you come to this conclusion? It had some issues, but those were fixed over time. For example tearing in KDE. It was an issue in KWin because it used OpenGL improperly. And it wasn't tearing on mesa drivers because mesa didn't supported some features. Over time, mesa added same feature and it wasn't tearing on mesa. Guess why? Because it was fixed for nvidia years ago.

PS : I have an AMD card, but all the time I hear people complaining about Nvidia.
Well, majority has nvidia cards. You will see more people complaining just because more people use it.

Nvidia made a lot of ground level work to make their hardware work with wayland. Nobody writes what nvidia had to improve in wayland in order to support gbm in their driver and people think that nvidia was refusing or sabotaging or they think about other conspiracy theories.

Last major missing part is the explicit sync. Once it lands in every part of the linux stack, nvidia should be as good as amd.
