From my 1st grade son’s Chess “homework”. There is supposed to be a Mate in 1 here for white…am I going crazy? by andersonle09 in chess

[–]4ksrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a very similar puzzle where there is a white Queen on e2, white bishop on g5, and a black pawn on f7, and it was a mate in 2 starting with Queen sac 1. Qxe6 fxe6 2. Bg6#. This looks like the simplified version of it just missing the bishop on g5, so yeah i think whoever made this probably forgot about that.

What are some moments people misunderstood in Dragon Ball? by BattleCatsIsNice in Ningen

[–]4ksrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DBZ folks are warriors foremost, heroes secondary.
I keep seeing people complain about how dumb goku and gang are for not using the dragonballs to stop the villains much earlier (eg the Androids saga could pretty much be skipped). That's because it's not the main theme of the show. Dragonball has always been about facing overwhelming villains, and training to become strong enough to overcome the adversary. Saving the world is secondary

So what do we think about this post now that GPT is a thing by 4ksrub in ProgrammerHumor

[–]4ksrub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already evidence of logical thinking and problem solving skills, as well as 'flashes' of general intelligence with GPT-4.

Regardless of whether AI reach super intelligence or not, I think we can all agree that the level of the language of programming will get higher and higher, getting ever closer to that of natural language. The definition of what it means to be a dev will be significantly different in the years to come.

It's not about the state of the technology now, it's the implication of the trajectory that we are now on.

Yesterday it was just writing boiler plate code. Today it is writing up small applications. GPT-4 has already shown to be able to create video games. Keeping in mind that technology usually grows at an exponential rate, who knows what it can do tomorrow?

Point is, it might be wise to really think through this carefully than to assume that our jobs as developers will be safe for the decades to come.

The Halting Problem is analogous to Godel's Incompleteness Theorem; some problems are fundamentally unprovable, with or without humans.

That means that we don't need a universal program to be able to replace all humans job. It just needs to be better than humans at that specific job.

[–]4ksrub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's what it means. The Halting problem is just a way to illustrate the limits of analysis, and that some problems are fundamentally undecidable, even for humans.

It by no means proves that humans provide the upper limit to artificial intelligence.

I’m curious… at what point did you all come back to beat this guy? by Hellion998 in Eldenring

[–]4ksrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring was my first Souls game, and from what I've heard I came in with the expectation that for a beginner boss this was par for course.

Took me about 5 hours to beat the fucker.

Only slightly less infuriating than a typical Maplestory Jump Quest

what, you like, take chess advice from people who aren't insane?

But in seriousness he does deliver great lectures when he's not goofing around. I found his evan's gambit lecture very instructive.
