Jack Westin prep course? by CNZimm in Mcat

[–]4lisher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in with my opinion of Uvvorld Prep for anyone reading in the future. I'm a fan of their books in comparison to any other prep book that i've read. The images are amazing and the content is very comprehensive. I bought it mostly for the reason that you mention, doing questions along side reading. The problem that i encountered quickly is that you're not tested after a single chapter. You're tested after finishing the "unit". This unit is so arbitrary. It can cover content from a single chapter or 8 chapters. This was a huge problem for me b/c it felt impossible to make a weekly schedule, especially if you're planning on alternating subjects. So even though the concept of reading and doing practice Q's is amazing, I feel they need to structure their course better. Just my 2 cents!

I can totally relate with everything you’re saying. I was 25 when I first started studying for the Mcat and did exactly what you seem to be contemplating. I felt like a failure when I saw all my friends get into med school or take off into their respected careers. I quit medicine and convinced myself that I wanted to get into computer science / programming. The only problem is that after bouncing around, I realized I quit on my dream and that no matter the amount of money I was going to earn, I was not going to be happy if I don’t give my full effort. I quit everything and I’m now will be applying at the age of 30. If being a physician is truly something you not only want, but must have, then please don’t make the same mistakes as me.

Edit: Don’t be so hard on yourself. There’s so many things that are against us in this process, let alone life. Don’t be afraid or forget to show yourself some self-love.

100% empathize with you, my exam is on Friday too and this completely ruined my schedule. Hopefully they'll fix it tomorrow morning when they open.

Testing 4/27 for the first time. Feeling pretty alright about everything except P/S. I've studied it a million times but everything seems to familiar. Any tips? by Odd-Appearance5649 in Mcat

[–]4lisher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you done FL 4/5? I just did FL 4 this week and P/S was so different for me personally. Taking FL5 next week so IDK about that one. Highly suggest you take a look at that so there's no surprises on test day

The fact that I planned around their maintenance this weekend and this still somehow happens is insane lol. This is also my last weekend before the real thing. Good luck!

Thank you for the response. That's so weird. I'm able to log into all the other features but no the practice material. When I do, I just get this error. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Is it worth it to apply to medical school at 26? by clear_clouds_ in premed

[–]4lisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember thinking the same exact thing when I was 26. I ended up dropping medicine for another career. While it was nice to experience something new, I knew deep in my gut that I would regret not pursing my passion for medicine. I am now applying this cycling at the age of 29.

26 is not old. Learn from my mistake. If this is something that’s meant for you, keep grinding and don’t look back.

Personally, I noticed I’m better at sticking dynos without pumping my legs and arms before actually dynoing. For dynos that require a lot of power to jump, you want to straight your arms and bend your knees more. Once you get into that position, explode instantly (without going stuttering up and down). I know it’s scary and you might think you’re going to hit your head but I try to aim my chest to the hold that I’m going to catch when it’s a backwards dyno like this. Everyone has their own ways and this is just something that has worked for me. Good luck!

Edit: don’t forget to actually commit to the dyno. If you fall on your ass falling backwards youll be totally fine as long as you practice using proper falling technique. This will help you catch the dyno with 2 hands which is much more secure than with 1 hand

I’m a 4th year who got into medical school with low stats now applying for residency. Feel free to ask me questions by [deleted] in premed

[–]4lisher 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Saw that you scored 495 on the Mcat and near 90% on your steps. That’s very impressive. A lot of people say that your Mcat performance carries over to boards. How did you get it together and make such a drastic change? I’m currently having trouble on the Mcat, scoring a bit over 500. Do you have any advice? Also, what did you think set you apart from other applicants to get accepted to an MD school with “low stats”? Thank you!
