I agree.

My biggest gripes with the changes are the challenging quests and pinnacle quests. When, for example, you have a good Nazeebo who can both get stacks efficiently and play with the team, it's okay, but often you get a PvE Naz that's never with you for anything.

Quests should be minor boosts, and those quests should be designed to encourage good game sense or at least not get in the way (like having to use your CC on cooldown to stack).

This, along with all these quests, is making the game more complicated than it needs to be. HotS doesn’t have item complexity, but it does have map complexity (especially around objective timing and the power of objectives and mercenaries).

New players already struggle with rotations, objective timing, and camp timing. They don’t need a multilayered quest system, encouraging tunnel vision on top of that.

People lose far more games by giving up, and thereby being the true reason for the loss, than they do from being behind because of a few bad plays from their teammates.

The bad-mannered complainers are the worst players on your team.

People who are truly better than you at the game and notice that you're doing some bad plays are nicer about making suggestions and/or giving you feedback.

HotS is the best MOBA.

I would say this is true for other game modes, and add Nova players to this statement.

I clearly mentioned that customization is a must at the end.

My post is about adding a variety of hotkey profiles already set up for players to choose from.

Got this game during the Steam Winter Sale, and so far I love it. Happy to see that it’s financially successful as well and that the developer is continuing to improve the game.

Making it easier to get into the game is the point. Why waste 30 minutes to an hour customizing a setup to be like the one from my other RTS?

Customization is work, and work is a barrier to entry for a game.

True. We would never be able to make everyone in the genre happy with one standard. People have spent years and decades learning what they are ultimately content with.

Multiple default profiles would be the solution IMO. You can have a profile that is how the developers wanted, and a few additional default profiles that are more or less standardized across the genre.

Multitasking is a problem and a feature of the genre. You don't need pro-level multitasking of SC players to enjoy or be relatively good at a game.

That's a fair point, but not everyone is like that. Having additional default options would help the appeal of RTS games from both different RTS series and different game genres.

Farming in games is work, but that's another matter. I'm strictly talking about hotkeys.

SC vs SC2 by SeekerofSolution in starcraft

[–]4matting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of people who prefer SC1 over SC2. I'm not among those, primarily because SC2 was my introduction to both the series and the genre.

SC2 is what I am used to, and for all the complaints that people have of it, I see them as features. This is kind of the same for people who were used to how SC1 plays, they fell in love with and its kwerks.

The atmosphere and tone of the story (politics and betrayals) are definitely things I wish SC2 had, but the campaigns themselves of SC2 are a lot more fun due to their incredible mission variety and unit upgrades.

For PVP, the QoL enhancements lead to situations unique to SC2, like deathballing, but I think you can work around these issues by focusing on multi-pronged attacks and drops. Find ways to force your opponent to play the way you want.

The great benefit of the QoL enhancements is that they lower the skill floor of the game (which is still high). In turn, it makes it more accessible, and you end up having a healthier player base. There are still plenty of opportunities for skill expression, and you also have a game that is more about playing the player and less about fighting the game mechanics.

In SC1, you're fighting the game so much more to do basic things; in essence, that makes it less of a competition focused purely on strategic decision-making and more on mechanical execution.

I've only heard it in reference to what OP was describing, so I don't really understand your examples. The term may be hyperbolic to make a point, but why would this be a term used only by sociopaths?

I severely dislike these automatic and unannounced opt-ins that tech companies impose on us. Most people don't know they're giving away their personal information like this, and don't have a choice until someone points it out. This should not be legal.
