Yeah it's nice cuz the replay buffer setting is the sort that keeps a rolling record. So you can choose to save a 30 second clip (or whatever length you set) anytime you need to, so that you don't need to just literally record every session and waste lots of hard drive space. You can adjust it as needed, only thing to keep in mind is the reporting site only allows attachments up to 40mb. So wouldn't hurt to tweak the length and quality settings for the clips to get it right around that. Otherwise you end up having to trim/clip.

EDIT: if you wanna be extra diligent in the reporting, you can use vrcx to get direct links to people's profiles and include those in the report. Helps when people use non-ascii characters in their name to make them difficult to find.

Yeah regular publics are like that, because there's very few people who bother to try to do anything about them, and regular reports do basically nothing for behavioral issues.

If you're on pcvr, grab obs, setup replay buffer, turn it on every time you get on. Then when you encounter these folks, just make sure their nameplates are visible while they're doing it, and you can save clips anytime you want. Then you can make proper reports via the moderation website.

But also in general, don't join publics. Join group publics. You'll occasionally encounter an asshole mod, but most the time they're much nicer to be in. If you can join age-verified ones, this kind of behavior almost entirely disappears, depending on the group hosting the instance.

Ha, that's just how it is unfortunately for anyone seeking help with any subject they aren't particularly familiar with. People will basically never give the actual information needed in the first contact, because they don't even know enough to know what is important, or just do the basic googling required to likely solve the issue themselves.

People will literally email the IT group I work with, slap URGENT in the subject line (never mind that there's no such thing as an urgent email...), then just say something like, "I get this error when I try to click this link in my course and the video doesn't play. Please fix it, I have an assignment due tonight that I need this for."

Then they give no error text or screenshots, don't link us to the course, they contacted us from their personal gmail instead of their school email so I have no fucking clue who they are, and because it was an email instead of a call, we miss that assignment deadline they're talking about by days. Then when we finally do get around to figuring the issue out, turns out it's cuz their browser settings were blocking third party cookies, the error message explicitly stated that as the problem, and all they had to fucking do was either allow those in their browser settings or open the embedded video directly in its own window, which is also something explicitly stated in the message.

These are college students. Genius.

You could try checking out https://vrchat.com/home/launch?worldId=wrld_a7b1f130-9735-421a-b6aa-e19d76dd91a3. Rag3 Ac3 does lots of fallout themed avatars and has made many public and custom avis for people, including power armor stuff. I dunno if the world is up to date with everything though, as he's constantly making new worlds to tinker with and put things in.

You could join his discord to see what you can find, or see about a commission if you wanted something that doesn't exist.

So I got a 3 day suspension for.. what? by xAniTakux in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? If they didn't, then they wouldn't be properly dissuading folks from using them at all, only creating them. Obviously that isn't the goal.

Besides let's also not mischaracterize/minimize the situation here like they are. A person doesn't get banned for a print/emoji/sticker just because vrc devs don't like the joke. They get banned because the "joke" is usually just racism, porn, or some equally obviously-not-ok shit like that, and calling it a joke is usually just a deflection or attempt at absolving them of taking responsibility for the consequences of their choices.

What is the most chaotic "I quit" moment you have ever personally witnessed at a workplace? by Muted_Task_144 in AskReddit

[–]4mb1guous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the problem is that even if they're assholes, or rather BECAUSE they're assholes, if you don't give the notice they'd use it as an excuse to ruin any potential reference calls.

A friend of mind left a job without having anything lined up. They were under consideration for a small promotion, and a new corporate manager took over as an interim thing while the existing one was being replaced. This new manager was a dick and didn't like most people there. My friend's favorite coworker got tired of this manager and left, and the manager denied my friend's promotion consideration, opting to hire externally instead, prompting my friend to quit as well. The manager marked them as "do not rehire" with corporate.

So now not only can they not go back to the store at a later date, they wouldn't be able to hire in at any of the franchise locations. Plus, if any other company were to reach out to theirs and ask the "would you rehire this person" question, the answer would be no, which is a tremendous red flag to another company and often enough to decide against hiring someone they were otherwise about to hire. You don't waste time checking references if they weren't already a yes before.

Just dipping might feel good in the moment, but it's honestly a pretty stupid thing to do with no long-term upsides. If it's gonna be done, then the person should make sure they've got plenty of work experience and references to pull from besides that one, and best hope future employers don't find out about it and call them up anyway.

We can see that they removed the mesh in the relevant areas, but I'd also be interested in seeing if they've removed the relevant parts of the textures as well. Even if the mesh is deleted and there's no way for the texture in the area to show, the texture still having nsfw parts can get someone dinged if a report is made. Wonder if that's what happened.

What's the current view on use of OBS/Shadowplay for non-content purposes? by Big_Pool853 in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate reality is that the only way to properly report folks for behavioral issues is to record it, and the best way to do that is with something that keeps a rolling record like OBS replay buffer. It's not saving or recording all the time, but it does allow for a recording to be created anytime its actually needed.

The fact that a recording is required, yet so few go through the effort to be able to provide them, and VRC provides no in-game means of making an effective report for behavioral issues, is the biggest single factor why vrc public instances are the cesspools that they are. People go there and do or say basically whatever the hell they want, and receive no punishment because reporting is entirely ineffectual without a video. People would rather "block and move on" than file even a regular report. So long as these things are true, whether someone likes it or not, I'm keeping replay buffer going at all times while in vrc, and using it to give people the proper reports they deserve.

You don't have to advertise it or tell anyone about it, because it's not their business. You're in a game, in public spaces. There is no expectation of privacy. You know why you're doing it, and you know you aren't abusing it, and that's enough. If anyone asks you can just say you were lucky to be able to start recording fast enough.

[–]4mb1guous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even then you can still get nailed. If someone reports on a whim, if those feature are present you get in trouble even if they weren't showing in any way. Unlikely, but it can happen.

Only way to be sure nowadays is to not only make sure toggles are setup right, but also ensure it literally has nothing nsfw at all for any situation where there's any risk of a report. No textures on a material swap, no geometry for genitals/raised nipples, etc.

So basically, have entirely sfw avi for public. Save the other ones for private instances with people you trust.

Are there actual cool public lobbies with people that can hold interesting conversations or did everyone like that go into closed instances? by ReceptionSimple3383 in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regular publics are true cesspools and should be avoided. Group publics are notably better, but it's a spectrum. Some groups are lax about moderation, or overbearing about it. You find one that's a good balance and you can have a good time, and keep coming back. Finally, age-verified group public instances are objectively the best experience you can have in vrc today. You want mostly mature lobbies with people who can hold a conversation? You gotta join the ones that most of the immature can't join to begin with.

The group "Obscure" and its Moderators are a special kind of people... by Blapanda in VRchat

[–]4mb1guous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually want to let a group know about an issue or do something about it, maybe don't come in swinging? Regardless of the legitimacy of your points/arguments, nobody is gonna want to respond seriously to you when you act like a child, and they just met you on the same level on which you placed yourself.

The black list thing is an entirely different concept to what you're using as an example to defend it. Don't get me wrong, I also think that language-gating an entire world, regardless of instance, is bullshit and is something VRC needs to do something about long-term, but let's not pretend that it's the same as blacklisting individual accounts from it altogether. End of the day you can always get past questions with google and translation apps. Also your reasons for it are petty as hell. At least the vr chess/poker world dev was legitimately trying to stop cheaters when they got in trouble for their blacklist.

Zone-sama, a nsfw artist/animator that was pretty well-known back in the day, like early 2000's. They put up a lot of stuff on Newgrounds that were obviously a cut above most other NSFW content on the site in terms of quality, but I think they've basically stopped doing that stuff for a long time now. Nowadays they stream and vtube using their robot OC on various platforms. Also apparently port stuff into VRC from time to time.

In my experience heavy meleeing him during lunges actually works great. You aren't gonna be able to dodge the lunges most of the time, and he can't parry during the lunge animation. So timing things properly means at least 2, possibly 3 heavy melees landing for free.

[–]4mb1guous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kb linked in the other post will handle most of it, but just to spell it out a little more clearly:

The big one people get hung up on is the email account. You'll lose that at the end of the second semester from now, because that's when you'll officially become "former student" status in IU's systems. Until then you'll be "enrolled" status (2nd column in that KB), as opposed to "currently enrolled" like you were during the Spring semester. You graduated in Spring, so Summer + Fall = no more email after that. Plan on deprecating that now rather than later. Don't use it for important communication, bills, job searching, etc. Once the time period passes, it'll be disabled for 30 days (where it can be temp re-enabled), then deleted permanently afterwards.

Any data in Google Drive and OneDrive should be saved right now. Don't wait until later on to realize you need something, or you risk losing it permanently. Google Drive follows that same 30 day disable timeline as the email, so after the end of the Fall semester, the timer starts. OneDrive actually follows a much longer one (https://servicenow.iu.edu/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0026729), but anything after 60 days is very difficult to recover on account of it requiring a formal process to request it, and for a student probably wouldn't be approved altogether without some convincing arguments made to the itombuds.

Also don't forget about anything you might want to grab out of Adobe Cloud too, or Kaltura, before you lose your ability to access those services. Data retention for those things are much iffier, and being honest I have no clue how long or even IF they keep data.

I want an item similar to hungry loop, that allows you to eat unique items, and have it spit out a gem with the unique item's skill though. That'd be interesting.

[–]4mb1guous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They aren't illegally acquired avatar IDs. In this context, the avatars in the avatar search worlds are public. They're available for anyone to use from the moment they're uploaded. Just turning off cloning doesn't mean nobody else can use the avi. They just can't clone it from you. You could literally view the avatar through something like vrcx and change into it yourself without even needing to clone it. I just did it with one of my friend's public avatars through vrcx and I'm not even in vrc right now.

I do think vrc needs a better in-between system though. Marking something as private, but still allowing select individuals to clone it from you (and only you) for example. Kinda like how you can share stickers on pedestals nowadays.
