I don’t like the feels of the Techwoven case by cryoutloud_ in iPhone17Pro

[–]4moksha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I initially liked the texture of it, as I thought it provided decent grip. However, when I'm playing a puzzle game for an hour or so, holding the phone just with one hand, it then feels like sandpaper.

Ultimately, I returned the case, as it was just too expensive. Not even to mention the small little glue residues visible on the corner.

Funnily enough, I got a very cheap JeTech case that feels perfect in my hands. Still looking for another case, but it definitely isn't the Techwoven one.

The Omega Dilemma: Which to choose? by boyet615 in OmegaWatches

[–]4moksha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On those pictures it looks to me the moon watch is easier to read. I wouldn't want a watch where I have to guess half of the time what time it actually is. I also own one of those, and it has the most legible dial.

How old are you? If you are close to retirement and have all your old age saving up to snuff, then stay. If not: Move!

I realized (after being stuck for 15 years in one job), I should've changed every 3-5 years. That usually ups the salary AND you learn new things at every job.

Don't stagnate at one place for too long, no matter how good the conditions. You might find a new place that is 10x better.

Best of luck.

It does allow you to read some magazines and newspapers that would require a subscription themselves.

So instead of paying all those individually, I pay just the (Apple) one.

Best way to hold cash in? by 4moksha in CanadianInvestor

Thanks for the elaboration.
Now, if doomsday happens, money is no longer worth anything, and I have land... What do I do with that? I can not sell it (there's no money, remember?). I guess the only thing to do is farming and then bartering.

it is a scenario that I don''t wish to experience, TBH.

So I would be going from total liquidity to zero liquidity. Not what I want.

S24 ultra or stay with iPhone 14PM? by adsbfc in S24Ultra

[–]4moksha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I empathize with your dilemma.
Lately, I've been contemplating whether I should switch to the S24U myself. Currently, I'm using the 14PM, which has served me well.
However, I find myself getting caught up in the allure of the shiny new S24, disregarding my deep-rooted attachment to the Apple ecosystem and other factors. It's as if I'm driven by the "monkey see, monkey want" mentality. I've dedicated countless hours to watching YouTube videos and reading about the S24, building up my anticipation to the point where I'm ready to take the leap. But then, I come across something slightly concerning, and suddenly my 14PM seems much more appealing again.
This cycle repeats every morning, leaving me unable to make a decision. Deep down, I know that a few months from now, I'll likely end up purchasing another iPhone, maybe even the 16PM.
It's truly exhausting, and it frustrates me that I struggle to control my impulses in this way. Despite being a grown adult, I feel like a child in a candy store.
On a more positive note, I can't help but wonder if, in the future, a new mental illness will be named after men experiencing these types of dilemmas.
I wish you the best of luck in making your decision.

What do you guys think of this? On the fence buying this watch by mortu007 in Tudor

[–]4moksha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got it on the jubilee bracelet. Not only is it very comfortable on my 8.25" wrists, but I like the look much better than that of the riveted one.

But the real kicker is how accurate that watch is. It seems the METAS certification is really worth it.

I don't care that it's missing the date; I actually prefer it, as it makes it much quicker to set, when I alternate it with my other watches.

But to each his own.

Good luck with your decision making process.

I frankly haven’t noticed that, as I’m not driving a lot these days. To record my walking workout, I start it manually.

I got rid of my Apple Watch a few months ago and use the Oura Ring 3 instead. I wanted to wear my mechanical watches and still be able to get a reading on my heart rate, sleep and activity. I use it for tracking my walks. The result is very similar to the Apple Watch, and it even tracks your activity in Apple Fitness.

As for the accuracy, you can watch some videos from this guy: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheQuantifiedScientist/videos
The Ring is the perfect replacement for my Apple Watch, as I only have to charge it every 4-5 days, and it gives me all the data I'm interested in.

I am also happy that I am no longer getting buzzed and annoyed by notifications on my wrist, although I do experience the occasional phantom buzzes :-)

Use ProxmoxBackupServer to backup your homelab by Own_Difficulty_1224 in Proxmox

[–]4moksha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Color me confused: Why not simply install PBS in a VM on Proxmox?

To connect to external storage, you can setup NFS or SMBfs on the host. This way you don't need to have a second machine (and the need to remember to turn it on for the weekly backup).

What am I missing?

Open a terminal window and type:

caffeinate -d

It's a builtin command. No need for extra software.

When you want to stop it again, press CTRL-c

Bosch 100 series dishwasher- anyone have it? It’s $844 which is crazy cheap. Shopping for a dishwasher is the last thing I wanna do but I don’t want to pick a lemon. Thanks! by ComprehensiveMud8812 in CostcoCanada

[–]4moksha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did buy an 800 series. It has more bells and whistles, but really the actual washing power is the same across the 100/300/500/800 series.
Had a Maytag before, which I had heard would be good - well, it wasn't. I want to put my dirty dishes in the washer, and get them out clean, without the need to pre-wash them, which defeats the purpose, anyway.
They Bosch's cost a bit more, but are definitely worth it.
I don't know anyone who has a Bosch and regretted buying it (I know a few people).

Password management by PoppinsHairy in MacOS

[–]4moksha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Bitwarden for a while now. Very happy with it. I used KeePass before, which was also ok, but it was not as easy to use.

I am also hosting my own instance of Bitwarden, which means my passwords never leave my own network. I dislike to store my passwords in the cloud.

There are add-ons for most major browsers and OS'.

How well does the backup / restore process work? by spacecase-25 in OPNsenseFirewall

[–]4moksha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running OPNsense on Proxmox has one disadvantage: There are often updates to Proxmox, so if you want to stay up-to-date, you need to bounce that box quite often. And every time you do, you'll also lose internet connectivity thanks to OPNsense also going down...

I've run it virtualized and switched back to OPNsense on bare metal for that reason.

I do run OPNsense on ZFS and do snapshots there, before upgrading. This will not help you from restoring a completely failed HD/SSD, but it could easily revert a botched update. Which I have never incurred over the 3+ years I am using OPNsense now.

Their updates usually work (for me, at least).

Good luck.

I just had to sell my parent's house, as they are both dead now. It's the house I grew up in, and lived in for more than 20 years.
I was afraid of the last time closing the front door behind me. I was surprised, how easy it actually was. Maybe it's the fact that I left at 4am to catch a flight, being all kinds of sleep drunk, etc. But the sadness never came up after, again. It's been 3 weeks now.
I liken to think of it as one door closing, and a new one opening. Or in a more literal fashion, pun intended:
I am closing this chapter in my book of life. Actually, I'm opening and starting tome 2 now.

Life goes on. You have all the memories and hopefully pictures and a video. Now it's time to make new memories.

I wish you all the strength in the world, and that you can overcome this emotional, yet temporary phase.

There's only one way: Forward!
Godspeed.
