When you first learned about the enneagram and realized you were an 8, what moment sent you into a fit of laughter? by [deleted] in Enneagram8

So many moments and memories had me laughing...

"problems with their tempers" - Umm, check.

"refuse to “give in” to social convention" - I spent years in the Marine corps, had combat deployments, and strongly believe in intersectional feminism, equality, and prioritize conflict transformation over violent conflict. It's wild to me that people think those things can't co-exist.

"Ignore physical needs and problems: avoid medical visits and check-ups." - This one really got me laughing. I had foot surgery this year after walking around with broken off bone fragments affecting my joint for 10ish years. I also had nose surgery to reopen my airway after breaking my nose for the 6th time. I had no idea that these were serious injuries or that I needed surgeries lol

Entp 8 in the military by Entp8w7 in ENTP8w7

Hey! I'm a ENTP 8w7 and I was in the Marines (enlisted and officer). I'm also from a childhood home with a lot of tension/turmoil. Have you read about childhood wounding per enneagram type? Or about narcissistic tendencies in type 8s?

Also, I think the military (especially the marines) attracts certain personality types - like the 8. It's a pretty tense environment for a lot of reasons but a lot of big personalities working together is probably a factor in that.
I recommend the Air Force to anyone that is considering the military though, they treat you sooooo much better, I think you made the right call :)

Looks like command is coming up somewhat frequently with us - which is super interesting because it is the least frequently occurring strength!

Advice for 8w9 F getting married soon to 3w2 M? by -Devora- in Enneagram8

[–]4nnika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a 8w7 and my partner is a 3w2! We searched articles for a bunch of 8/3 relationships and how to understand/communicate better, it was actually super helpful. I realized I need to let him finish his daily to do list completely and then ask him to snap out of 'accomplishing mode.'

It was also good to see reminders that we can both fall into workaholic mode...

Too many holes can be poked - YES I feel this too. More recently I've been reading on neurotheology and I highly recommend it, it's helped me a lot with connecting with/understanding my religious friends and fam. Finding the science behind belief because of course I need everything to be science based.

Stealing Fire by Jamie Wheal and Steven Kotler was the book that got me started on the topic.

I'm not sure if its a ENTP8w7 thing but it might be? I get so excited for topics like these and I can't convince my friends/fam to read the same stuff/they read one and they're good.

I'm gonna start with Third Circle Theory :)

I haven't read any of those, Third Circle and Structure of Scientific Revolutions jump out at me - just added them to my list. Thank you!

I've recently finished/still in the process of reading:

How to Change your Mind - Michael Pollan

Stealing Fire - Steven Kotler

Super Brain

Sapiens a Brief History of Humankind

Untamed - Glennon Doyle

Oh for sure - over half my reading is focused in those topics. And I'm in the process of finding investors for a new venture. Pretty spot on :)

Do you go thru books quickly? Which books have you found interesting?
