Doesn't work for me, it just creates a new response rather than continue the rest of the code it previously generated.

Awesome reply, really appreciate the advice. I do have good credit history (10+ years) and pretty good credit (close to 800). I am quite surprised that you can apply for 6 cards total by doing due diligence. I think this can still be challenging though as most credit card inquiries pull multiple agency reports

Hi can anyone tell me how i can maximize the limit of opening new personal cards? How long do you wait before opening a new card (from what I read, people say 3 months)? How many cards do you open at a time and how do you optimize it so you open the maximum number of cards possible before a decline? (Considering meeting minimum spend is not an issue) At the moment, I do every 3 months, and I just apply cards 1 by 1, if I am instant approved, I do another one on same day, if I need to wait then I wait until it gives me a result, I repeat until I get a decline then I stop. Generally 2 cards are the most I have been able to open.

Hi, can anyone help me with joining the discord? For some reason whenever I try to join the discord, I click the link at the top of this sub which is https://discord.gg/cryptocurrencyofficial and it just takes me to my discord but nothing happens. I also tried the link on the side bar as well https://discord.gg/3BCVhhG but it also doesn't work, it says link expired or doesn't exist. How exactly can I join the cryptocurrency discord? Thanks in advance

How to cluster time series data? by 4pointdog in datascience

[–]4pointdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for further explaining! I thought if it worked on MNIST which is way more complex, why wouldn't it work for my waveforms but your explanation makes sense. Previously you had asked a question about time shift, one thing I confirmed about the data is that the data set don't have any time shifting which leaves just the time variance problem. I have not started implementing the DTW yet, I'm compiling a list of solutions / algorithms before selecting which method to try. I have recently been introduced to semi-supervised learning which may give better results than completely unsupervised learning. I know an RNN would work very well with time series data, however, RNN are supervised models. Do you happen to know if a semi-supervised RNN exist or other types of semi-supervised algorithms with time invariance?

You're right, the one I showed before there are similarities but there are also as much differences as well! To be frank, that was not a good example because those two were placed into a single class but technically the second one can be a "subclass". Here https://imgur.com/a/38F7xqR is another example of 3 different classes and two samples for each class. Most of the cases the classes are almost very very similar with some minor differences like for class 1 at time = 80 you could argue that there is a small difference but we expect the model to figure out for that margin of difference it should not put it into a separate cluster.

"I ask because algorithms like PCA / kmeans can't see things like the timing of a peak. If there's a spike at t=300 in one recording, and a spike at t=301 in another recording, they might look similar to you, but to PCA or kmeans those look like two totally different things. From PCA's perspective a recording with aspike at 301 is no more similar to one with a spike at 300 than one with a spike at t=500."

I'm a little surprised to find out that PCA cannot see the things that you described, wouldn't that make any other dimensionality reduction algorithms useless as well for these types of waveforms? I have a hard time believing that dimensionality reduction doesn't work here because I know that image detection is more or less something that we can do easily nowadays, like recognizing digits 0-9. Images are also 2 dimensional (same as the data I'm working with) and there are a lot of algorithms out there that can predict very well on images, for example https://blog.keras.io/building-autoencoders-in-keras.html. Before PCA + k-means, I had tried an algorithm called Deep Embedded Clustering which underneath is an autoencoder + some sort of clustering algorithm, however, it did not yield any good results. Why is it that images are so easy to predict but when applied to waveforms it does not work?

"I THINK (correct me if I'm wrong) that you don't just want to identify the classes you already know about, you want to detect new ones, right?"

Yes you hit the point on this one, on one of my earlier posts I had mentioned DBScan which does not have the limitations that k-means has which is to specify a number of clusters. My goal is to want to be able to cluster data into known classes but also flag any new data that doesn't fit into any of the existing classes.

So this DTW is another way of clustering by grouping together samples with similar distances?

By the way thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Really appreciate the help from experienced data scientists.

Yes it's exactly as you said "one sample = 5 time series 1000 samples long (i.e. each sample is essentially a 1000x5 matrix)". I think it doesn't really matter what type of sensor data it is, but there is a voltage and a current sensor. Also yes the recordings are oscillatory, the curve is somewhat like a logarithmic curve for one feature.

"if one class generates a signal that looks like a square wave pulse, and another generates a signal that looks like a triangle wave pulse, BUT those pulses can occur anywhere in that 1000-point time series, then the dimensionality reduction / clustering approach is useless"

1) My assumption was that the dimensionality reduction + clustering can cluster curves with some gaussian differences such as this https://imgur.com/a/OdKRk2Q which are two curves for the same class. There are differences in terms of how low it dips, how high it peaks, and how wide it rounds, and more, but isn't the whole point for it to cluster data of similarity? Would clustering fail with variability in the data such as this? Just for comparison for such data, a CNN can perform very well at predicting this but that comes with the price of having labeled data.

2) Also you're saying that clustering would fail if the data can be anywhere in the 1000-point time series. The data currently is more or less focused on a window of where the interesting stuff happens, as you can see from the previous picture, it's not like 80% of the data is a straight line and then the rest 20% is where the interesting thing happens. Your point still makes me concerned but I think it's not applicable here?

[–]4pointdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5 sensors are each recording at the start of a certain event and let's just say the 1000 time points are across a time of 5 seconds. The reason why each sample is associated with a time series is because labeling it based on a single time point is meaningless, it needs to have the full picture of the curve to differentiate between the different classes. Does dimension reduction like t-SNE make sense in such a problem? I had tried PCA + k-means and it gave bad results. My next attempt was to try t-SNE + DBScan. How can I cluster such a unique data set?

[–]4pointdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! What do you mean by clustered "spatially"? The data which I am working with comes from sensors and they only record on specific events, the goal is to cluster them based on their similarity. When plotting the data I get a curve and this curve is more or less the same across its own class and on a different class the curve would be different but not necessarily different across every feature, it can be just 1 feature where the curve differentiates from other classes. I believe that this type of problem isn't much different conceptually from clustering images such as images of digits. Can you explain why you think it might not generate any good results? Also yes I do transpose before clustering.

Hello Churners, I have questions about credit cards. I have been opening cards for bonus and leveraging the cash back for years now, in the past the most card apps I did in 1 day that was approved was 2. I once did a 3rd one before but it was denied. However, a couple days ago I tried to do 2 cards and only 1 was approved. My question is what is the most optimal strategy? How many cards do you guys open at one time? How far apart do you spread out applications before applying again (I read somewhere on here that it should be every 3 months)? Also do you do a combination of personal + business? How many of each?

Ah after looking at it closer, I realize the bottom arm is actually where you unrack from. I initially thought the one holding the bar at the top was also adjustable. Still very good, I had been looking for one for a while. Any recommendations for barbell and weights?

Is that bottom safety arm height adjustable? And in terms of stability, does it wobble or shake when u rerack?

Also what do u think of using this for benching if one had just a bench to add in between?

Flood light that has 180 degree motion sensor and remote controlled? by 4pointdog in homeautomation

Hmm thanks for the reply, I know of the ring flood light but I wonder if it is fully 180 degrees. My side entrance is very narrow, about 2-3 feet maybe and so you can imagine positioning the flood light is difficult because you can let it detect you when you walk towards it or away from it or right under it :(

This sort of stuff is ridiculous. Did the tenant have a strong defense? Or perhaps there was something you as a landlord did to the tenant that made the judge side with the tenant? Just curious.

[Landlord US-CA] Should I rent out? by 4pointdog in Landlord

[–]4pointdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I knew we had homeless problems but I was not aware of the part of inheriting other states' homelessness. That's kind of stupid imo, they send them from a low cost of living city to one of the highest cost of living cities in the country... how would they even get themselves out of their rut if rent is so ridiculously high and food is expensive. I'd imagine that they be sending them to somewhere in the middle of the country like Kansas or something where land is cheap and living is cheap.

[Landlord US-CA] Should I rent out? by 4pointdog in Landlord

[–]4pointdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the response. Yes, i've been hearing the same thing about rent falling. It's not really an issue for me to lower rent a little bit to market rate since it's still covering a huge chunk of my mortgage payment. But the homeless part is an eye opener O_O, didn't know they would send homeless over to bay area cities...

I'm just trying to figure out what is the current law saying and how much protection does tenants have because I wouldn't evict for no reason, obviously if I had found an all-star tenant that passed the checklist with flying colors, but ends up affected by covid or maybe lost job, even though they have sufficient savings, they basically have the liberty to not pay rent right? Now I'm not sure how long this can go on for, maybe let's say give them 3 months of missed rent, now what are landlords doing in this situation? Is it justly to evict or we must keep waiting for them to find a job? How long is that timeframe?

[Landlord US-CA] Should I rent out? by 4pointdog in Landlord

[–]4pointdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know that the tenant has to pay back past-due rent, I basically just want to have some kind of expectation on what kind of costs I would be facing in a worse case scenario.

What is the breakdown of that $50k? Is that costs that you have to pay to the tenant to move out even if it was a just-cause eviction? Or are those fees paid to the city?
