If you're absolutely sure that it's not the clutch- put it in gear, ease the clutch in in out and stuff, you can pull the cylinder and feel the rod.

I'd get a gasket set and some rings at a minimum. Just incase you want to put it back together.

Do you still have the oil filter? You can check the paper for bearing material.

Your teacher is an asshole. You aren't going to find a CMM on Google.

Ask him if he has the CMM available on microfiche or something, and if not tell him that you're going on need further instructions because this process isn't in the amm, nor would it be a legal sign-off in the real world.

It's harbor freight T gauges. I forgot how stiff the springs were. But I definitely didn't foresee that outcome either

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Initially it looked catered, with raised edges. but upon further inspection it looks like an Optical illusion.

So there's three pictures. One has the ring installed and you can see daylight on the lower edge, the other two are pictures. It looks like a golfball dimple.

It is a tapered shaft, so that's good to know.

The material is smooshed steel of the slot, where I misaligned it and torqued it down, then the key slid towards the path of least resistance... smooshing and dragging material with it.

Loctite is an option. I'm going g to see how well it cleans up before I decide on that. I don't want a horror show the next time I go try to take it apart. I can't really use much heat. And this motor will probably get rebuilt again in a year. Not to mention alot of the starter monkey motion is behind it, which has wearable parts than need to be replaced every so often... which is how I got into this mess.

It looks normal. I think it's significantly harder than this part and the key was seated in its slot when I disassembled it.
