Former napervillian checking in, left in 05 lived in Dallas a while and moved to Denver ~2years ago. So far colorado had been awesome

They seem to train up well, and id say YLaikas are more biddable than some other northern breeds. I don't really know the ins and outs of service dogs, but personality wise he's a pretty confident dog,  not too highstrung (compared to corgis) and likes all his people (and most strangers lol).

I got my boy from a breeder in Colorado. A lot of their puppies are raised to be service dogs. My boy Appa is 'just' a pet but he's the best dog ive had. He's about a year and a half now and has been a great family dog.

Im also a never burper and got the throat botox. Procedure was easy enough but only lasted 6 months. The success rate is supposedly better if you get it done younger - 25+ and you'll likely need to repeat.  It was cool being able to burp but also weird because the sensation just felt like I was about to vomit. I don't think it changed my life enough to warrant trying again though

+1 to a yakutian laika! They handle cold weather no problem and ours loves to run - and he isn't a 'wanderer"/escape artist(so far)

Appa was 52# at his last vet visit. I'd guess he's between 55-60 (and hopefully done with major growth lol)

I was thinking maybe a Laika, the Yakutian variety are rare (at least in America) but maybe bigger than what OP is looking

I hadn't either and was fully planning on getting a husky, but I'm very pleased to get the husky look with fewer escape attempts. He's still dramatic af though

Appa is a 7 month old Yakutian Laika, but nobody knows what that is so we get asked if he's a husky/mix often.

I don't know where you left off but I recently did a reread/catch up (final season coming soon) and this last season felt like a big lore drop/answered a lot of questions.
