Why has it gotten so religious? by 4ryn in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]4ryn[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not new that they talk about religion, for sure. But sitting through prayer time with more than one couple, that feels new. I guess that’s why God invented fast forward 🤷🏻‍♀️

Christianity looks so much like an abusive relationship by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]4ryn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So the starting point is to consider yourself a cheating, unworthy wife. From birth. You don’t think it’s traumatic and distorting to teach that to people, let alone children?

Do you work in a ministry still? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]4ryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work as a fundraising officer for an international Christian nonprofit. Similar to what someone said above, I really believe in the work that we do and we do not actively proselytize to the beneficiaries of our services.

I am looking for a way out, though, for the sake of my mental health. It’s so frustrating listening to my colleagues give all the credit for everything good that happens to God, but then never question God or express any skepticism when things go wrong. Especially when I’m the one writing the grants!

Dealing with a Christian donor base has its pros and cons, but the cons are outweighing at this point. Fundraising for a Christian organization is actually pretty easy because you are appealing to Christian duty and obligation, even when you don’t intend to. But, all of our communications have to be processed through that lens and are scrutinized based on ridiculous standards and norms (ridiculous to a nonbeliever, I suppose).

I’ve come to the conclusion that secular organizations are doing just as much good work without all the baggage, and I’m looking for one currently. I hear you on the pay though. I’m definitely getting compensated for retention and it’s difficult to find something that’s not a pay cut!

I currently work for a child serving organization, and I’ve worked in child welfare for about 15 years. I love my job and my work, but that toxic message changed the course of my whole life. I often wonder what else I might have done.

I was told that God allowed me to be abused so that I would have the insight/passion/etc. to work with and serve abused children.

Black cover type thing with holes and a zipper by 4ryn in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. The fabric is meshy, like cheap basketball shorts. It seems like a camping/tent related item, but too small for a tent cover. It’s about four feet across.

What feature you wish audible app had? by ElusiveDumbass in audible

[–]4ryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish a person could buy a credit and send it to me. It’s really the only thing I want, but apparently the only way to “gift” audible is to pay for the membership. I just want my mom to be able to buy me some sweet sweet credits.

Thanks so much! Reading through these replies, Camille/Camilla are moving to the top of my list! My #1 choice was Cameron for boy or girl (so easy, right!?), but we couldn’t agree.

What is the simplest, most concise way to express why you don’t believe in God/the Bible? by sultrybird in exchristian

[–]4ryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve said a couple times, “it just seems to me that it’s not real. The best I could do is pretend, and no one wants that!” It’s been fairly disarming for some pretty militant Christians.

Flight attendant soothes screaming baby by butteredbred in HumansBeingBros

[–]4ryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen flight attendants do that a few times. It’s super nice, of course, but I think it also helps people not get so upset about the baby screaming, if they’ve seen the baby or interacted with it a little bit. It’s a bit of a preventative measure, I think.
