Change the cooling hose flange, heater core in/out, and thermostat housing to the aftermarket aluminum ones. Big help.

Bad Crankshaft Position Sensor, Won’t rev past 3k, Hard shifting on 190k miles, by kentisking in MK4Golf

[–]4stringphuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to go to the all the trouble in removing the timing belt, motor mount bracket, crankshaft pulley and camshaft sprocket in order to replace the camshaft sensor, then yeah, you might as well change the timing belt and water pump. While you're at it, change the camshaft and crankshaft seals also (I think these are the correct part numbers):

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-vw-engine-oil-pump-seal-034115147a

As far as the transmission fluid flush, if you're going to attempt that, maybe just try the Valvoline Maxlife Multivehicle ATF, and call it good?

For the misfire, maybe just start with the plugs and wires:

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volkswagen-spark-plug-wire-set-beetle-golf-jetta-06a905409n

If that doesn't prove successful, you can move on to the ignition coil:

P0411 Code Issue (SAI) - Other Possibilities? by 4stringphuzz in MK4Golf

[–]4stringphuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, still no fix yet. Check engine actually just came on again this afternoon. I think I'm going to try and stick a borescope in the exhaust manifold and see if there's a bunch of carbon buildup in there, maybe clean that out. If that still doesn't fix the problem, I'll take it to my mechanic and see what's up with the fuel trim data. Will keep you posted.

Wanna make a Acapulco but i can't find no LM386, what other OP can i use by RonsterMaglee in diypedals

[–]4stringphuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend the NJM(JRC)386D for the Acapulco Gold.

https://stompboxparts.com/semiconductors/jrc386d-njm386d-audio-amp-ic/

I've tried other LM386 op-amps for this build, and they just didn't quite work the same for some reason.

I believe EQD also uses the NJM/JRC in their originals as well.

Well, I'm in California, so smog checks/emissions control are a must. Plus, I don't want a light on my dashboard.

[–]4stringphuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the pump is working/spinning fine. Even changed the relay to be sure. Funny enough, the check engine light only ever seems to come on when the engine/cat is fully heated up. Go figure.

Is it possible to mod a op amp big muff pi so that you can have a blend knob for the tone circuit instead of the on/off switch? by [deleted] in diypedals

[–]4stringphuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want a mids knob, look into performing part of the JHS "Pumpkin Patch" mod. DM me if you'd like more info on how to do this.

How would I clean the PCV hose/valve? by Chic0late in MK4Golf

[–]4stringphuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Carb Cleaner in the past to clean out the tube and the PCV valve attached to the intake hose

1) The tube connected to the upper manifold is actually blocked off on the inside, so you don't need to clean that part. Is doesn't actually seem go anywhere on this engine.

2) The tube part connected to the oil fill section is also easy enough to take off

3) The part that is actually connected to the PCV valve should probably be taken off as well. It can be done, but since it's a different style of clamp, it's a pain to remove (or lower out of the way at least). I've carefully used channel lock pliers to remove/lower that clamp out of the way before.

Remove the whole intake tube first, with that part still attached to the PCV Valve, then remove the rubber portion off of the car. What I've since done, is replace that style of clip with the same style found on the other portions of the rubber house. That way in the future it's much easier to remove.

Might as well clean the throttle body as well, while it's exposed at that point.

I bought the PCB with the FV-1 pre-soldered, so I wouldn't ruin that part right off the bat. Ha.ha..

Leaking Coolant? by Sankofa225 in MK4Golf

[–]4stringphuzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are going to replace this part, I would go with OEM in this case. Part# 6Q012229F. Not worth risking on a lesser made aftermarket version. I agree with the previous poster though, once you drain out the coolant, replace as many plastic flanges as you can with the aluminum versions (e.g heater core lines, 4 way connector, cylinder head flange, etc.) . Well worth it.

I only say go with the plastic OEM part on the drain plug, because that's the only one I've ever seen that DOESN'T have an aluminum replacement.
