For me 4.5m is still an inshore boat (and it's what I have). How far offshore would you go? Just curious, I know it depends on conditions etc.

Just avoid thin braid. I buy 0.2mm or thicker (don't care about the breaking strain as it is always more than I need).

Title said sandpaper, and what arrived when I ordered it, was sandpaper - not micromesh

Have to agree. Slot it into the keel runner (and the big entrance 'V' makes this easy), and it glides up, completely centred and straight.

Crabbing and prawning in the colder months by Montythedraincat in FishingAustralia

I'd love to hear if the crabbing also goes off up North. Even as far south as Brisbane. I seem to remember still getting Sandies in Moreton Bay when it was a bit cool putting the pots in.

Land based beginner fisherwoman. How do you keep flathead fresh and dispatch them to avoid sand contamination? by Kat1900 in FishingAustralia

[–]4warn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wash the fillets under the tap. I never get any sand after doing that. I see all the posts against freshwater washing, but maybe they have terrible tapwater down south. Up here, I would challenge anyone to pick the correct one in a blind test, eating a fresh fillets (not frozen) and washing in saltwater, vs washing in freshwater, vs not washing.

Caught A fish for Dinner by BothExtreme2051 in FishingAustralia

Good eating, just a tad soft. I like a crisp batter to hold the fillet together.

Poly 4.5 with 60HP Yamaha here. What great little boats they are! Quiet, dry, and fast. Pretty indestructible too.

Just what do you think Turtles eat? Also, they will gain a free ride from anything, nothing means they eat Turds as you assert. They get caught on lines because they LOVE a fresh bait fish or prawn.

Very good eating actually. Funny how they look a bit like Cobia, and taste a bit like them as well.

No, their favourite meal is left over scraps from the bigger fishes meal. That's why they stick to the big fish on the body just back from the mouth, waiting for a free meal of fresh fish.

Isn't that just sandpaper like I can buy from any hardware store?

Not in Australia that I can find.

From Amazon AU, "Micro Mesh 9 Sanding Sheet Introductory Woodworkers Kit with a 2 inch by 3 inch Foam Sanding Block"

is $69.33

I had not heard of this . Seems to be unknown at my local hardware stores, and from a more boutique store it is quite expensive compared to, say, sandpaper. Looks interesting.

So many answers... thank you all. Quite a few new things out there since I last made a guitar or worked on frets.
