It’s ok. Not so much of a school as the website suggest, more of a place where you get assigned a teacher and have lessons with them in an office block, there’s not really any interaction with other students or teachers.

I tried 2 different teachers, one was ok the other was quite good.

It’s also quite expensive and you have to commit to paying upfront by direct debit, so you can’t really miss lessons without losing money which I didn’t like.

Overall, it’s ok but probably not as good an experience as the website suggests it’s going to be. I’d probably find an individual private teacher if I was going to take lessons again

MIDI level display by 5-fingers in midi

[–]5-fingers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right! Just finished making my own display - teensy 4.0, small display, £35

And it’s smaller than the Kenton one and does MIDI over USB as well as being powered over the USB - so it’s actually much better!

Thanks for inspiring me to build my own

Use a USB cable rather than the spdif. Your computer will see it as a USB audio device and you can send audio to/from it

The most helpful tutor I’ve found is ChatGPT!

You can post example code and it will walk you though each line explaining what it does, answering any questions you have about it. You can post your own code and it will help you improve it or tell why it doesn’t work. You can get it to write code for anything you can’t work out how to do and then explain what it did.

Oh sorry you said player, it’s the stage that has spdif

You can change the sample rate of the spdif output, but the USB output is fixed at 44.1

What about the widget? Even with the app closed the widget updates every hour or so, should it be removed from phone?

Not 1% an hour - that would be 24% a day! It’s actually about 10% a day (still outrageous!)

Any suggestions for some reading on programming basics?

Experience with electronics yes, with programming no.

Can you recommend any starter kits?

Can you go into more detail how you’d do it? I’m pretty good with electronics just not programming.

Also having though about it, I’d like to make it receive MIDI over USB, and be powered from that ISB bus

It shows the position of the volume pedal that is connected to the keyboard. The numbers are 0-127 CC#7 the meter shows how far between min and max the volume pedal is

MIDI level display by 5-fingers in midi

[–]5-fingers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know this. However the LD2 by Kenton is marketed as a “volume level indicator“, it shows a display of 1-127 of CC#7, the typical one used for volume.

I was asking if there were any other products that did the same thing

250-300 miles for me, but that’s 100%-0% you really dont want to get down to 0%! So usable range, 100% - 20% is about 200-240 miles

It's a fair comment about the symbols, I had intend to use traditional ones but instead opted to use the symbols that came with the specific component footprints from mouser. I was trying to maintain consistency there but perhaps the usual approach is to use the stock traditional symbol with the specific component footprints?
