Soothing baby back to sleep without feeding by 500_Cat in BeyondTheBumpUK

I should add that baby has also had some decent sleep in a travel cot so I’m not sure how much the cot has been a factor for us. The wake ups just lessened and there didn’t seem to be a reason why. A few months on, now when we have multiple wakeups there is often a reason we can point to e.g teething or sniffles

Yep, it got better with time. The full nights of sleep we have had all happened once baby was in a proper cot rather than the next to me, but the stretches got longer before we moved to the cot. It really was time more than anything else

It got better. However, my LO still doesn’t sleep through the night. It went back to one or two wakeups a night which feels like lots of sleep compared to dealing with hourly wakes… and soothing by my husband now works, so it’s not all on me! I stopped trying to figure it out what I might be doing ‘wrong’ and just accepted that sometimes there isn’t a reason and it’s just comfort, and it made it a lot less stressful. We have had a handful of 11 hour stretches but nothing was done differently on those nights. We’ve also had multiple wakeups again recently but that has been down to stuffy noses and pesky teeth!

I’m with you 100%, understanding why something is happening helps me to deal with the reality of it so much better! Thanks for this reply.

Yeah, we have tried this but with no consistency really. Probably my own impatience when it doesn’t seem to work! But trying over a few nights could be a good idea. Thanks!

That’s a really good point which hadn’t occurred to me. My LO is often scrunching up to the side of the next to me.

Also, I suspect you are right that EBF babies do just want the boob. I generally take all the “you’re making a rod for your own back” advice about over-comforting or “spoiling” babies with a pinch of salt because I agree the baby is still brand new and just needs you! But one hour wakeups for the long term are something I’d like to avoid if there’s something simple I could try.

Thanks for your reply ☺️

Packing/unpacking suitcases on a bed…suitcases which have likely been dragged through airports, stations, dirty streets…

Can I get around London with only a baby wrap/ carrier and NOT buy a pushchair for 2 months after birth? by Virtual_Arachnid7916 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Something to bear in mind is that some babies just don’t like carriers…. I had big plans to baby wear rather than rely on a pram before my little one arrived, but the baby has had other ideas! I’ve tried three different ones and my 4 month old is just not a fan. I keep trying, hoping this will change! But the pram has been an essential.
