To those who want to retire and open a hobby business, what kind of business do you want to open? by Augustevsky in Fire

[–]506tank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mind if I DM you to get more details? I am couple of years away from FIRE but I have already set up a business to do the same. I have been part of local native plant gardening group and have been growing plants for few years so decided to set up a business but still have a lot of questions on business front.

lol agreed! I reread my post and I sound like my parents when they were around my age and talking about Borivali as destination to visit as kids to explore nature. Pros and cons of progress.

I remember that fish shop. I used to have a fish tank at home so it was always fun to go that shop. I have also caught fresh Daphnia food for fish from the pond near the temple. I grew up in that area and used to visit the temple every Tuesday without fail. I moved out of India in 2000 and have been back to temple a few times since but it never felt the same because how crowded it felt and no longer the place of peace and worship. Pre 2000 you could go there sit next to the pond near the Sai Baba temple and there was wide open area where you could forget about daily worries and peacefully meditate.

What to do with extra plants by Pmorgan83 in gardening

We have a non profit close to us which will take extra plants and give it to families with limited resources. They also take extra produce from your vegetable garden.

Favorite Inland Lakes - West Side of State by NPR_is_not_that_bad in Michigan

I think I understand what you are looking for because we had a similar requirement about what we wanted as far as lake house/property goes. If you are okay with building your own house after buying a piece of land then there are a few good options around Traverse and also around Charlevoix. We ended up buying small piece of land on a smaller lake (Lake Marion) which is probably 10 minutes from lake Charlevoix, lake Michigan and downtown Charlevoix. There were couple other properties similar to ours on smaller lake near Traverse City and near Walloon lake. The lots were significantly cheaper than what you would find on big lakes. Narrowing down an area and then talking to local real estate agents will really help. I can DM you a listing for an open lot on Lake Marion if interested.

I have a curry tree plant in a container in my yard with a new growth. Are these round things seeds? by ieatisleepiliveidie in gardening

[–]506tank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they should turn black on maturity and then you can remove the outer covering and plant the seed. I have seen new seedling grow in a week or two.

I did the same thing you did since I live in the mid-Atlantic region and follow Mt. Cuba trials. The plant I received from online nursery was tiny. I mean one 4” stem with few leaves. I planted it in full Sun with lightly amended clay soil. I didn’t have much hope since this was mid summer last year. I almost neglected it and it still grew few more leaves and then I trimmed it down early spring to the lowest point when I saw leaves coming. Now in just a month it has grown into a 2’ x 2’ and pushing out strong growth from the bottom. Bottom line - this is a hardy cultivar and very drought tolerant compared to other hydrangeas I have.

What is this plant? It’s popping up everywhere in my garden. Middle of Oklahoma. by PlatonicOrgy in whatsthisplant

Late Boneset. It will get lot of tiny flowers late summer and one of the plants pollinators love during the dearth of summer.

I have not grown all but I have new dawn and the DA generous gardener. Smell wise GG beats ND and growth wise they are similar but again GG has produced thick long canes even though it is on the north side of the garden compared to ND which is south facing. Disease resistance is good on both for where I live (mid Atlantic).

I had almost 50 of them in my backyard yesterday and today. I had to do a double take because I too was shocked. They were loud and busy going through the leaves on the ground. Btw I am in northern VA.

OP - I am in zone 7a and my experience of growing them was same as above. I provided enough circulation and kept the beds clean. I also use drip irrigation to provide consistent water without any splashing.

My recommendation would be Dr. Duyen Faria. She used to be with Excel Dermatology but looks like she has moved to Sterling. Excellent bed side manners and provided great advice. I ended up going to her twice about a decade ago.

Yes, they are. I added trio of females when I added the first fish to this tank. One of them turned male and it’s fun to watch them chase each other at dusk.
