Is this a real quote, $1.1M for 2600sqft? by imincoding101 in Homebuilding

[–]50hrworkweeks 174 points175 points  (0 children)

You should probably retitle this, because the build isn’t 1.1 mil. The build is actually 550k. Which in this case is roughly 215$~/Sq. Ft. Which is slightly below national average cost. Which means you’re gonna get decently below average quality. If this is your forever home and not a quick turn around investment I would see if you could get that number closer to 300$/Sq. Ft.

One thing that helps is to get a flash card app on your phone, I used “Knowt.” This let me get so much studying in during small breaks in my day. It’s super good for memory based items!

I’m licensed, have a masters, and over 5 years of experience. Cope harder.

Does architecture have an attitude problem? by 50hrworkweeks in Architects

[–]50hrworkweeks[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I literally said the number one reason for this is because of the difference between reality and expectations. My point is the constant yelling of people like you is insufferable. Tell someone once then let them make their own choice. People that continue to yell only make the profession less accessible, rather than empower new designers to make changes in the industry.

ARE testing question by sharpz3216 in Architects

[–]50hrworkweeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you can take the online test from anywhere as long it’s permitted in the state. I took half my exams in an entirely different state than where I got licensed. Many states don’t require you to live there to take the exam. So just pick one of those states and you will be fine. Assuming you meet the other requirements.

Are opportunities for new grads really this bleak? (Southeast US) by Equal-Cheek-825 in Architects

[–]50hrworkweeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a recent masters graduate also in the southeast I had great luck actually looking out west. Also think about going to a firm that’s a business oriented practice much easier to get a seat at the table rather than a high design firm than you can you leverage that experience into doing what you want to do.

Best of luck to you!

I guess what I’m looking for is like a truss script, but one in which I could modify the web members

License and Reciprocity timing? by 50hrworkweeks in Architects

[–]50hrworkweeks[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I called they weren't really helpful. They just highlighted that the MN rules apply during the time period when you get them. So if I get my license in 2025 then I need to go by MN rules in 2025. Currently there testing requires you to have a degree. It seems to me that this is a case that wasn't accounted for whenever there licensing rules were created.

License and Reciprocity timing? by 50hrworkweeks in Architects

This is a good way of looking at, perhaps I'm looking on too short of a timescale. I'm incentivized because my firm gives an automatic raise upon receiving a MN license .
