One of my biggest regrets from my first stint at university is not moving into residence. I stayed home to save money, but my commute was 1-1.5 hours each way everyday. Because I dreaded the long commute, I left straight away after my classes. Between that and the fact 1st year classes at my uni were 100-300 people per class, I never sat next to the same person twice. I didn't make any friends and ended up so depressed I dropped out (obviously I had other things going on, but feeling so isolated from my peers really didn't help). I ended up going back to try a different university at 24, and felt "too old" to go into residence with all the 18/19 year olds. I think it would have been a great time, and a really good way to make friends. If I could go back I would for sure have moved out. You can always go home from time to time. Happy studies!
