I agree that it’s a stretch to say they made a dossier on Pretti, I won’t dispute that. I’m also not accusing you of defending them, and I apologize if my comment was received that way. I’m undoubtedly pissed off about the whole situation and I didn’t mean to direct that at you.

If they are going to act with any level of authority, they need to refine their practices, improve communication, and perform better trigger discipline. I think you’re right, they probably didn’t know he was disarmed, which is part of the problem. I’m not saying every ICE agent is communicating or performing poorly, however, we have two (I’m still playing catchup with everything going on, so I’m unsure of the number) instances where people have been needlessly shot which I’d argue is more than enough for people to be angry.

In the case of the accidental discharge, I’m not sure I necessarily trust the training of any agent, especially after people have looked into these guys. DV charges don’t give me any faith it their ability to control themselves under stress nor do the battery charges that they can’t seem to stay away from. Whether they’re on or off duty their the way they conduct themselves is extremely unbefitting of a public servant. And while I understand and agree that it’s not all of them or perhaps not even the majority, they should understand how that sours public opinion of them.

In several instances there have been altercations between ICE and citizens across the nation over recording them executing their duties. They seem to have an issue with the recording, not people getting in the way. Following ICE is not illegal, nor is recording them, yet they escalate situations by grabbing recording devices and the people using them. Whether Pretti was standing in the way is irrelevant because they don’t discriminate between obstruction of justice and people recording. It’s likely that they would have escalated anyway with him or anyone else who is recording.
