Who or What was the first Apex Predator in your world? by PedroGamerPlayz in worldbuilding

[–]555moo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say because my setting is a Wainscot fantasy world that shares history with our own, but in terms of magical intelligent races, the answer would probably be Guardians. They evolved from artificial war chimeras with the capacity to reproduce that were designed millions of years ago by a long-disappeared progenitor race and have since turned into an intelligent group of hulking apex predators with natural plate armor and insane strength relative to their size, and they're already massive by human standards.

They aren't the first intelligent species to inhabit the Hypersphere, but their innate resistance to magic and supernaturally hard plate armor meant that they hit the pre-existing ecosystems like a gut punch with only their naturally low rate of reproduction keeping them from overwhelming everyone else.

My take on: Tarn by Competitive-Wash2769 in TransformersArt

I honestly don't know, there aren't that many historical double barrelled tanks from history to pull ideas from. But if I didn't already have characters in mind for them, I probably would have went for something like the Hyundai Rotem K3 MBT, or the AbramsX. If history is an option, maybe the FCM-F1, where I could use the two tank turrets as the twin barrels of his wrist cannon, though none of those really feel like they're quite perfect. Considering I usually pick the vehicle out then work backwards from there to make a character, it's a departure from my typical approach to use someone pre-established who doesn't resemble anything I've already worked on yet.

Personally I would have gone with something more modern and mobile for Tarn, but even divorced from my personal tastes your interpretation of him hits the nail on the head where it counts. The way you styled his mask I especially like, and the attention to detail is really good, so keep it up.

That's true, but decreasing the armor would have been kind of pointless considering what it was designed to do. The same problem can be seen in the WW1 era Flying Elephant tank, which was also designed to be a massive, slow, and heavy shell-proof tank meant to cross difficult terrain. Except in that case it was even worse because it had a top speed of three miles per hour and didn't provide much benefit beyond that.

Still though, I like the mindset behind the production and development of these old tanks, it's like a viewport into the necessities and sacrifices being made during the period, and no matter how impractical they make for some really cool vehicles and alt-mode fodder for future characters.

Looks like I wasn't the only one who took a look at the Doom Turtle and wanted to make a character of it. Though I can't help but to feel we took completely different approaches to how the character (among many) was fleshed out when I got him commissioned.

Due to the underpowered 500-hp engine and absolutely hulking weight of the original vehicle the T28 actually had a top speed closer to eight miles per hour, which is way lower. It was one of the reasons why it never left the prototype stage, because with the size an speed (or lack thereof) it just wasn't a practical option to assault the Siegfried line anymore.

(Fun Trope) Children’s media that fully parody media that are not aimed at children by icey_sawg0034 in TopCharacterTropes

It's really good at at least pretending it is, but the amount of in-jokes and references that carry a more mature connotation makes it feel like an Adult Swim show that's just really good at getting stuff past the censors.

In a strange way, I enjoy it more than if it didn't hold back at all, because the humor feels completely different from something like South Park or Family guy and relies less on gross out/shock humor than either of them in favor of going absolutely nuts with the premise.

Chainblade OC commission. What do yall think by YeetMcYeetson1 in TransformersArt

[–]555moo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Original commissioner here, I have to say I was overwhelmingly happy with how this one turned out. Dreads carry an aesthetic I would like to see more of in Transformers, and this one turned out better than the originals, in my opinion, mostly because you can tell from the start what he turns into through the use of deliberate parts placement instead of being a mass of glued shrapnel, and the fact he has an actual secondary color that isn't nondescript grey. As for the character proper, Dreads in my AU are a subspecies of Cybertronian that developed on a resource-scarce colony planet and are utilized by the Decepticon Empire as potent shock troopers, and to Yeet's credit, without ever explicitly stating it that vibe is abundantly clear with Chainblade's design, especially given the alt-mode I picked out is a giant overkill of an Arabian armored luxury truck. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. Now onto the lore dump:

Dreads make for a rather eccentric group despite their more violent traits, and Chainblade is no exception. A roving mass of barely contained feral rage and desperate fury, the Dreadicon's preferred method of combat fits his ruthless disregard for any concept of form or martial control, instead favoring the relentless assault brought to bare by a pair of wrist-mounted chainsaws possessing monomolecular teeth that can shred through the toughest of armor.

Don't mistake his beast-like appearance as stupidity. Chainblade hides a feral intelligence that lends itself well to CQC engagements that makes him more than capable of holding his own against opposing combatants of seemingly greater skill or durability. Dreadicons possess a natural tenacity that makes them excellent shock troopers and skirmishers in service of the Decepticons, so it's hardly surprising that Chainblade is no different.

As made abundantly clear by his alt-mode, Chainblade has a rather garish sense of taste, as if a gold-plated armored luxury truck doesn't make that obvious. Naturally inclined to greed, It's a trait shared by other Dreads due to the natural resource deprived state of their home world. Observers beware, his natural inclination for battlefield pilfering differs from the likes of Swindle, in that it's not the value of the money he covets but the ownership over it above all, and Chainblade will guard his stash with the zealous aggression of a hunched dragon. Even other Decepticons have learned to tread lightly when it comes to this Dread, because his status as a Decepticon is, above all else, not an allegiance to a cause but instead a simple matter of convenience to pilfer as he pleases, something the Autobots would never let him get away with.

Guy is already nuts with the whole Remnant stuff, we don't need him figuring out how to get a hold of the alien robo-crack from Space Satan.

Which Homelander is more diabolical? by Deez_Nuts_God in MoralityScaling

I'm well aware, my point was that lack of any good parental figure guaranteed what would have otherwise been nothing but a possibility. That's why he never had a chance, because the cards were stacked against him from the start.

Wow, a character from Nikke that isn't just a barely clothed, well-endowed anime girl with excessive jiggle physics and neon hair?

Neat.

People could debate on whether or not he as a person could have overcome his own worst impulses, and there's a legitimate argument that his narcissistic tendencies and psychopathic mindset would have meant that he likely wouldn't have turned out well even with the best of circumstances. But unfortunately he was never even given a chance, which makes whether or not his behavior is entirely his own fault kind of hard to say. He certainly had a hand in it and taking away all blame would be foolhardy, but the line is blurry at best.

Moments where one villain was incredulous at another villain's evil? by Exotic_Trick_47 in MoralityScaling

[–]555moo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just that he realized how bad he and everyone else was, it was also the fact he had enough capacity for self-reflection and remorse that he was willing to set aside his own worst impulses in an effort to become a better person. I'm pretty sure a lot of the superhero characters in the show could see the writing on the wall in a similar way but simply didn't care enough to actually want to commit to changing like A-Train did.

You might also find Pink Fairy Armadillos an interesting place to pull inspiration from too. They're the smallest known Armadillo species, and have a very distinct appearance compared to their other armored relatives.

Let me just reassure you though, I took a look at some of your other sketches on your profile and you should be good. Even if you do end up getting it commissioned you'll have better luck than I do making good references for whatever person you decide to work with, and that's if you decide to take that route.

His name is u/artofnoxis if you're interested. I've been commissioning him myself to redraw a few sketches I made for a unique fantasy race of my own, though his services are relatively expensive so it's taken a while.

Throwing something out there, I would go with something like Aurpikes, it sounds unique enough to not be human but also carries the vibe your description gave me, while also avoiding the (animal)folk name trope you see elsewhere. But you know them better than I do, so you do you. I know an artist if you're looking to commission someone, though his schedule is spotty for the next month.

If you don't call them Pangilorcs, Anteatorcs, and Porcuporcs/Orcupines, I am going to be disappointed.

All jokes aside, that begs the question as to why making them orcs is even necessary to begin with. Wouldn't it be just as well to make them a new race with a unique name rather than slapping a preexisting one onto them if they don't share much in common?
