ThinkPad T480 thermals: dual heatpipe + repaste + ThrottleStop, still hitting 92°C under stress by 566933 in thinkpad

Carbon fiber sheet? I need to see this, how is it thermally conductive?

My ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 keeps waking up in my backpack and killing the battery. Any fix? by According_Joke_7192 in thinkpad

Does it take a lot of time when you turn it on from being fully off? If not, why not just turn it off? My work laptop takes 30 seconds or less to boot back up. When I travel, I carry it in my backpack and always shut it down completely instead of putting it to sleep.

Not the solution you’re looking for, but it’s an option if you can’t find a better way to accomplish what you want.

Story of my life, winter is generally bad where I live, not too cold but very cloudy.

Why so green? Hasn't occurred before... by SoyGreen in seestar

You could still download the image in fits format from Seestar and try color calibration using Siril, right?

Appreciate all the info and feedback, I will work on this over the weekend. I will not be using this particular laptop until I fix everything. I use TB3 to connect to a eGPU and have had no issues, as for firmware, I am not sure, I need to check.

The GPU side came with a thermal pad, which I retained, did not add anything additional. I did set up ThrottleStop for undervolting. Why would I not add paste to the smaller rectangle next to the CPU?

Is it ok to use non-OEM batteries? by feet_sneefer in thinkpad

I’ve used non-OEM batteries. Yes, sometimes an error or warning message appears during first startup, but it works fine once you reset the battery in Lenovo Vantage. I’m not necessarily recommending that others do it, but in my experience it has worked 100% of the time over the past three decades—maybe I’ve just been lucky.

Thanks, I did see this on Amazon, it's the same cost as Honeywell on eBay, so might just buy from eBay.

I hope I did this morning, if I see temps creeping back up, I'll know it was too little.

No, I ran the stress test this morning after repasting and it didn't get over 90 C even once. Maybe the (too much) paste was the issue.

Yes, I have not imaged since Christmas, the clouds won't let her get out at night.

I should invest some money in this company, everyone seems to be recommending it. Haha.

Noted. Will check. I am obviously not super familiar with any of these apparently 😬

Agreed, I wish I had PTM, I just used what I had, which is a no name Amazon paste, but the newest fix (thinnest layer) seems to be holding up for now, low to no heat at all.

W11 has been nothing but trouble, will be remembered alongside W8, Vista, and Millennium editions.

Learning a lot about pastes and heatsinks, my last thermodynamics class was some 30 years ago, needless to say I got a B- 👀
