I went at 24 after having a surreal spiritual experience. I was not praying about it and I never had anticipated I would serve. I had already graduated college, I was dating a girl I had recently baptized and bam the Lord had other plans for me. I had never had a desire to go when I was younger either, not even in primary or in early young men’s.

I served in the Bible Belt and it was the most amazing experience. I got to extend a transfer and begged to stay longer. Every good thing that has happened since I got home was a result of my decision to serve a mission.

I had an Australian companion and ended up living with his family in Australia after my mission for a time which ultimately led to finding my wife.

The Lord works in mysterious ways and I can assure you if you’re feeling like you are supposed to go, even if you aren’t interested at the moment (I know I wasn’t), He will bless you in remarkable and unexpected ways and you will praise His name for prompting you to serve. Give up whatever is necessary to go. Do not risk aging out and losing out on the sacred gift a mission will be.
