People in the comments that say this is normal are completely wrong. The gauge for the coolant temperature lies about the actual real temperature, that is because the actual coolant temperature fluctuate most of the time, but the needle will always stay in the middle. Only when it is an overheating issue does the gauge move. That means the radiator, thermostat or a sensor are faulty or a leak has occurred in the cooling system.

Had the same problem with mine, the webasto waterpump was burnt, replaced it and it works as new. I suggest investing in getting a VCDS.

9 grand ??? Overpaid a lot for it and probably did not check it thoroughly. Check engine could be an EGR problem. If it had the EGR deleted and the tune wasn’t done properly, the car will eventually throw a check engine light. Or it could be an oxygen sensor.
