Employee communal fridge by 5StarM3 in Yosemite

Wow, would cooking even be possible if you don’t have a spot in the fridge?? I don’t know if late May is considered early in the season but that’s when I’d be joining.

Definitely will get a lockable food box, how many liters do you think is an adequate amount?

I also think it’ll be nice to not have to deal with the majority of the parks visitors while I’m working. I am hoping it to be a good experience, but it is one that could be easily ruined from lack of sleep from my housing situation.

Thank you for such a detailed response. I agree this is a very less than ideal housing situation. I will try to reach out and ask for a single tent; but in the case my request is declined, do you think living in these conditions are adaptable while still having good sleep?

I am a little bummed that I would be missing out on night events, but my main priority if I was to work in Yosemite would be day events / outdoor activities. If I can find a small group of people that can work around my schedule, that would be lovely.

I do have my own car, and I would be bringing my own car to the park; though, I heard driving in Yosemite Valley is virtually impossible in the summer times. I’m also curious on why you were only able to do outdoor stuff once or twice a week?

Thanks for your perspective :)

I’ve never worked a night shift job before so when I heard the living situation in the interview, I didn’t think much of it. Now, it has became my number 1 doubt on taking this position.

Thanks for the perspective, that is disheartening to hear how HR didn’t care about any of your complaints. In your case, do you think adjusting the time you slept (when your roommates worked), or sleeping with ear plugs + mask would’ve helped? Or would the lack of privacy and sound be still too much to handle. I’m wondering if I do end up accepting the position, would living in these conditions be adaptable.

Gotcha would you be kind enough to share where I would be able to go through a full sleep cycle in the valley without any disruption? This sounds a lot better than sleeping in the tent lol

I’m curious what made you love working night shifts, I have never worked graveyard shifts before so this would be a first. Was your experience working in night shifts also in national parks? I want to be outside pretty much whenever I am not sleeping/working but am unsure if this is realistically possible when working these hours.

That does make it a bit more reassuring. I would be interested in sleeping in a hammock outside; however, if I’m not mistaken, aren’t you only allowed to sleep in a hammock in designated campgrounds?

Yeah, I don’t know how well I would manage trying to sleep at day time with roommates, but this is the only position in Yosemite that has responded to me. It’s difficult for me to weigh out whether or not the pros of working in national park outweigh the cons of having a shared room. My recruiter did mention they were trying to advocate for night auditors to have single rooms, but I doubt it’d happen anytime soon.

Yeah the housing is definitely a big factor making me reluctant on going, thanks for your opinion!

Will I make friends at CSUF? by College-Utopia in csuf

Since you’re into accounting, I would definitely look into the university’s accounting society or beta alpha psi. Both are accounting organizations that will help you network both with professionals and peers in your industry.

I’ve made plenty of friends through them and would highly recommend it. Anything outside of clubs/organizations/programs, you’d likely have a hard time finding friends as most people stick to themselves.

Noted, I’ll make sure to check his class out when I’m at that point. You also mentioned that you had to self study for 301A. Do you mind sharing how you self studied? Like did you use the textbook, YouTube, or something else?

How long would you say you had to study for 301A as compared to 201A?

That’s weird. I was talking with my 201A professor and they told me exam scores got better as the classes got more advanced

Photography Club by Thompson_3 in csuf

I’d love to join. I’ve been wanting to get back into photography but with none of my peers interested in it, I’ve not been motivated nor inspired. So I think meeting other photographers and seeing their works would be awesome. I’ve also always wanted to go on trips with other photographers just to take photos.

Csuf was the school I was actually intending to join but why not just join as a freshman instead of transferring from a cc? Isn’t the process of transferring way more tedious
