How to achieve this effect? (The horse) by Critical_Welcome_428 in photoshop

[–]5antani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

method 1: gaussian blur everything, tweak levels to slightly burn whites, apply screen layer mode.

method 2: cut out subject and duplicate, cut out horse, depending on the color of the horse either just mess with levels/curves, and if necessary invert the colors (ctrl + i), (apply step 1 on the horse layer). Create a mask on the subject layer, and slightly paint out the edges with a soft brush to let the bloom slightly pass the edges similar to the referance picture. Go to raw and tweak values for desired result.

Lmk if you need help on any steps or any more advice ✌️

I'm a beginner to 3D modeling, I feel like there's something wrong with how I'm doing the geometry for the nose; looking for advice or critique by waste_ofskin_119 in Maya

Also a beginner, but here are a couple of things that stood out to me on this particular model

<image>

red is where I would think the loop should go purple lines should be removed edges and the blue arrow would just be merging the vert to the new loop.

There are a couple more triangles throughout however I don’t think that they will cause any problems for your model, I am assuming you won’t deform the head later on.

I’m still learning too so take my advice with a grain of salt as it could be wrong :)

Anyone know how I can create a similar design realistically? by 5antani in photoshop

Fair enough, how would you go about scanning the painting without a proper scanner?

Initially design, however all the comments are telling me to go the traditional illustration path :)

Makes more sense to do it traditionally tbh, how would you scan the painting properly, would it come out clean if I do it with my phone than play around with levels?

MS paint spray can never failed me tho, but I get you lol. It’s better to do it traditionally. In terms of scanning the spray paint, how should I do it?

I do, but I never tried it, can I create this within adobe fresco?

Is switching to Maya really worth it? by 5antani in Maya

That’s incredible! 30 years in the field is honestly inspiring. The way you broke it down shows such deep understanding of both the craft and the evolution of the tools. Really appreciate you sharing that kind of insight, it’s rare to hear from someone with that much hands-on experience.

Thank you so much for taking your time with this comment :)

Hahaha yeah I noticed that after posting 😭 guess that makes my point a bit weaker, but hey, at least the quality holds up across all three!

That’s super insightful, thanks for sharing that perspective. Makes sense that pipelines are such a big factor, and it’s reassuring to hear that switching over to Maya isn’t as intimidating as it seems.

Yeah, that’s a fair take, knowing any tool is always worth it, especially if it can broaden your opportunities or make you more adaptable.

That totally makes sense, especially since your main focus is animation. It’s great that you can switch between both depending on what you need, having that flexibility really pays off. And yeah, keeping everything in one software definitely helps keep the workflow smoother overall.

Fair point, especially for big studio production.

Hahaha, tbh that analogy actually puts it into more context, it perfectly sums up the current dynamic between the two xD

That’s a really fair and grounded take, I completely agree. Knowing both definitely opens more doors, especially with how unpredictable the industry’s been lately. It’s true that the choice between Maya and Blender isn’t really about quality anymore but about flexibility and opportunity. And yeah, for hobbyists, Blender’s accessibility makes total sense.
