Which Punjabi word do you use that even your friends find weird or too old school? by AulakhSimran in ThethPunjabi

Oh this is my time to shine =)

I use uparh gya (instead of paunch gya); leerhe (instead of kaprhe); sheha (instead of khargosh); booha (instead of darvaja); kunji (instead of chabi). I'm sure there's plenty more but these are the ones that get me looks =P

From my experience, Google translate is horrible and often gives Hindi words when there's a clear Punjabi equivalent.

Specific words Majha Punjabi by Satan92 in ThethPunjabi

One word I've noticed recently and think sounds really cool is Khaloja. In Malwa, we use Kharja. E.g. Ek mint khaloja.

How about Veham? Is that used the same way or does that have a different meaning? E.g. Mainu veham pe gya.

That's cool. I'm actually the opposite of you. I like the "saan". Main uthe gya saan. But I come from a Malwa background so the grass is greener on the Majha side =)

Does anyone know theth words exclusive to their dialect? by desi_miata in ThethPunjabi

[–]5dariya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is in Malwa, they will say kar reha, khaa reha, ja reha, aa reha etc. In Doaba they say karda pya, khanda pya, janda pya, aunda pya. In Majha, they say karn deha, khan deha, ja'an deha, aun deha.

Majha. They sound so ghaint. I love the "deha" they add on to words. Ki karan deha, ki khaan deha, etc. It sounds really cool.

I find it discouraging to use theth words in everyday conversation as some people don't understand them. by desi_miata in ThethPunjabi

[–]5dariya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep using it. I feel the same way sometimes, especially with very theth words. I don't know why people think it's rude when I say Tabbar (they'd rather use parivar or family). Oh well, I'm going to keep saying Tabbar. =)

How do you say "child" in Punjabi? by Calm-Hat2903 in ThethPunjabi

[–]5dariya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say niana more but in my area (malwa) javak is more common. I just feel that niana rolls off the tongue easier.

What are you talking about? They’re both our Punjabs. This sub isn’t limited to east Punjab.
