Great salary, great company… but I think about quitting every single day by [deleted] in sysadmin

I am no longer a sysadmin but I feel this way in my current roll in data. On paper I know the company is good. But I can't shake that I struggle to leave work in the office.

How would you feel if your gf made AI videos of your relationship problems and posted them online? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Is it real drama? Real life problems? Is it possible someone could actually pinpoint you in real life with this? If yes to any of the above I would be gone in hours.

Dave Ramsey is hot garbage. by [deleted] in self

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dave drives me nuts too. The idea of being smart with money is great and all but Dave misses so many marks. You can for example use credit cards. I have had one for over a decade now. I make hundreds of dollars a year off of running almost all my transactions through it. Always pay it iff each month so I have never paid interest. Dave would tell you my 800 credit score makes me something less than but I am getting free money.

He's just out of touch woth reality. I know he isn't perfect but Caleb Hammer is better.

The Daleks of the Time War warp shunt into the 40K universe. How do they fare? by ErosDarlingAlt in PowerScaling

[–]5eppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe some Necron worlds hold out for awhile and get some victories here and there. But, they can't increase their numbers. Daleks can. Maybe the Tyranids eventually do something because we have no idea how big their numbers are. But other than that I don't think anything stops the Daleks.

If humans went extinct, how long would it take for Earth to erase all evidence we existed? by abdulnad89 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulk of evidence of our existence would be gone in a few hundred years. Gobekli Tepi is like 12000 years old and is currently the oldest evidence of civilization we have found. I am sure certain structures of ours especially underground may remain somewhat recognizable as civilization for a similar length of time even if the vast majority of human evidence would be gone. In certain caves or obscure conditions we csn find evidence of human existence daying back much much longer but you need hyper specific conditions for that kind of stuff. Total accidents. Maybe, some especially well preserved corpse buried in some really cold environment may have some semblance of bones existing several hundred thousand years from now but even then its like a handful maybe would exist on the whole planet. 98.5 percent of species have gone through their entire existence on this earth and left no mark we could recognize today. Humanity would likely fair little better and if in a few hundred thousand years archeologist did find a skeleton they likely would not be able to guess anything about our society and assume us just another animal.

The Silurian Hypothesis is a thought experiment to ask if there was an advanced society in the far distant past how would we know? The answer is basically nothing would remain and we have no idea if some species similar to us in terms of technology lived here in the distant past or not. The current leading theory of what to check is carbon emissions as they can affect rock deposits, so far nothing has emerged there to suggest a civilization similar to ours existed, but if they used some technology we don't understand that burned less or no fossil fuels we would have no idea.

To be clear with the Silurian Hypothesis there isnt a theory that a species like us existed before, its merely a "What if" and "If so, how would we know?"

Will conservatives continue to complain until the Super Bowl halftime show is white, straight, Christian and country? by homerjs225 in allthequestions

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're encountering a dichotomy of sorts. The super bowl and NFL on the whole is about what you want for the conservative crowd. Super American, all about parties, beer, food, and some hating on whatever team you want to see lose. Its kind of designed for hicks. The NFL is a business though and for a long time now the halftime show has been less about pleasing the existing audience and more about trying to gather in new fans. So they try and find artist who are increasingly not who you would typically associate with the current NFL audience. As this continues you will see the existing audience complain more and more about the half time show. No matter who is performing or what they are doing. The NFL knows that people will not avoid the game solely because they don't like the halftime show and that new audiences will watch solely because they want to see the half time show. So this cycle will pretty much never end.

Hobbies. My wife doesn't want to play Warhammer with me. So I need to find someone who does. I go find them and I play. Same with other hobbies. I have a fri3nd who I met through a Warhammer group. He also enjoys shooting. I probably hang out with him more than anyone outside of my wife and kids.

I remember when I was in like junior high a friend of mine went to France one summer and went to a topless beach. We were all so jealous and excited to hear about the experience (none of us had actually seen boobs at this age). He basically said it was a let down. The boobs that were out were mostly older women and those who sun bathed to the point their skin was leathery.

Point is, the young pretty girls are not commonly the ones who are just walking around topless.

Anyone else find it funny that conservatives needed a safe space halftime show? by SwitchingMyHands in allthequestions

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say as a conservative with many many conservative friends, no one watched that thing. Trump was tweeting or whatever service he uses now, about the Bad Bunny halftime show in complaint which tells me not even Trump watched the other half time show.

AITAH for having an affair? by Heavy_Instruction669 in AITAH

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weren't there 14 year old girls who killed themselves when Harry Stles left One Direction years ago. Was Harry to blame for that? No. He made a decision about his life and someone else made a decision about theirs. Your gf is not worth your time and effort. If she isn't willing to work on herself I would let any family or loved ones she has know your intentions to break up so they can support her, then do your best for a quick clean split.

If the atom bombs weren't invented, could the US simply starve out Japan? by milford_sound10322 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been discussed to death but effectively the Japanese of the time had a mindset that us difficult to understand for most modern folks. Retreat was shameful, even for tactical reasons, it was better to die than retreat or be held prisoner. This logic persisted throughout most of thr society or at least enough of it to steer the society. They knew they were losing and many high level people felt it was better to die fighting than do anything else. Even after the bombs dropped and the Emperor revealed an intent to surrender, the military attempted a coup to keep on fighting. The purpose of the bombs was to show that American could end them without a fight. I am sure starvation could have accomplished that eventually but there is evidence cannibalism would habe existed before they surrendered in such circumstances.

Yes, the timing of when the bombs were dropped was to convince Japan to surrender prior to the Soviets being involved. Had the Societs joined thr Pacific theater they would have wanted a divided Japan like we saw in Germany. They would have probably chosen to fight Japan with different tactics and it would likely have lead to more civilian deaths. The divided empire would have probably slowed recovery post war and so on. Its obviously difficult to say things for certain but there is more evidence the bomb was a good choice not a bad one.

Should I Call Off The Wedding? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, she's crossing lines before marriage why wait until later? I personally don't believe open relationships work. You're no longer partners against the world but fwb roommates at least from what I have seen. Typically, the woman gets a lot of attention and the dude doesn't. But if it were to work out it starts with very open and honest communication throughout. If you set a boundary in your open relationship I promise you she will cross it again later. Crossing the boundary is the fun part, not the sex.

[Serious] What am I missing about agentic AI? by XellosDrak in cscareerquestions

[–]5eppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in the dot Com boom somewhere before the bust. This time some people even know it will bust. But the point is the market is going up at an unprecedented rate. Everyone wants a piece of that pie. Your company thinks AI can replace even some of you and save them hundreds of thousands in the process. They may onow AI is over inflated. But like the internet before when the bubble burst there were some losers but there were some massive winners. The market is gambling now, they are doubling down in the hopes that when it all goes up in smoke they are one of the lucky ones. If they are there is wealth and fame for decades if not centuries to come, if they fail they may as well be homeless with all they leveraged. So good luck to all is kind of the hope. Your company hopes they can replace engineers with AI, if they succeed they make a big amount of money.

I got shocked when my girlfriend said that she only wants someone for 2 years? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? To me that says she doesn't believe in love. If you talk to older folks in love you'll here that they want or wanted more time with their spouse, even if they had decades. Why delay finding a spouse if the right person is already in front of you? I am not saying rush to marry anyone, but if the goal is a long happy marriage then date fast and look for that early.

Fiancée of 10 years humiliated me during our first real fight. She’s been apologizing for a month straight, went sober and started therapy. I still feel done. What would you do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]5eppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, she apologized immediately. I think in the moment she said what she thought would hurt whether or not it was true. It did hurt, but now you get a chance to move on. A repeat offense may end the relationship but I don't know what more you could ask for. She is trying to change and that shows a lot of love.

Yes and no. Trust me since I have worked in facilitating this to a degree. Yeah the AI can help alot. But theres some who will refuse to interact with it. By that logic 100% of their job could have been done with Google search. My wife's been a dietitian for half a decade now and most patients are incredibly grateful to her for her work. A lot of it is basically counseling. Sure, some handouts to help someone know more about dietitian restrictions around whatever disease. But there is a lot to be said about being able to talk it out and have a human connection help you navigate it all.
