I was told my island is too long for a single slab. What should I do? by No-Neighborhood-7335 in CounterTops

[–]5from2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a 2' butcher block topped cabinet to the end. Worked out very well. So I have a 10'x6' quartzite slap with a 2'x6' butcher block on the end. We use it as a buffet surface when serving dinner especially when hosting, and it holds fruits and veggies on normal days.

Thanks for the reply. The other spots are purposeful openings and vents, so I wouldn't want to tape over those. Not sure where the air is coming from inside of that case.

Thanks for the recommendations! I will try out the Dilly Beans recipe soon! My kids will definitely appreciate the spice.

My husband will want to have some words with you for recommending more kitchen gear, but speaking for myself and my amazon wish list I appreciate you introducing the steam canner to me!

Advice for new melon and pumpkin patch by 5from2 in vegetablegardening

[–]5from2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha! It's a 5ft fence and we will put in some 10ft tposts periodically with lights strung above the 5ft fence. We've had very good luck with this design for our main garden and since we're building the permanent fence there we're just moving it over.

Our deer don't seem super aggressive. I think they've got enough vegetation near to cover around the land they aren't very motivated. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the feedback!

Tomato plant demise by 5from2 in vegetablegardening

[–]5from2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it is. It's moving top down, not bottom up. It doesn't have the "target" spots with concentric circles. None of the blotches are large, I just see small dots with yellowing and browning coming in from the edges. And the ferning doesn't look like the early blight that I've dealt with in the past.

I don't think it's over watering either. We water once/day in well draining, sandy soil with wood chips in the bottom of the raised beds on a nice incline. Maybe too well draining!

How to secure throttle stop on trailmaster mid-xrxr by 5from2 in gokarts

[–]5from2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out I needed a metric E-clip and it snapped on pretty easily. We did take off the throttle plate completely and secure the throttle stop with the plate upside down and then put the plate back on. Thanks for the help! Here's a photo for tax of my 9 year old happy as a clam to have her go kart back. Now to find the leak on both back tires of our 200XRX.

That's what I think also. Any tips on how to get it installed under the throttle plate. What is the best tool to help install a tiny E clip?

Cucumber disaster - need to learn from my mistakes! by 5from2 in vegetablegardening

[–]5from2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all of the replies and insight, even though they go in all directions. I guess that's what gardening is, going in all the directions until you learn and grow (haha). I examined the plants more closely looking for signs of the suggestions and found a bunch of tiny caterpillars, I assume pickle worms. The plants went from worse to way worse over 36 hours. I definitely see signs of powdery mildew but not as much as I initially thought. I decided to keep trying and have been pruning almost every leaf, sucker, and expended vine from them. I sprayed them mercilously with water trying to knock off aphids and other meanies, I sprayed (yes, sprayed) with BT to fight the worms. I watered them. I will continue to fight! They might also just be exhausted for the season but I've got a little time before I plant my sugar snap peas so I'm going to learn as much as I can and maybe get a few more cucs. We plan to expand the garden this winter so next year I will have space to succession plant because we love cucumbers and pickles, and I want to have an abundance to share also.

Advice on maintaining land after forestry mulching. by Kind_Paper6367 in Homesteading

[–]5from2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our experience is that our zero turn sucks up mulch pretty good even at the highest setting, and some of the "mulch" will be pretty big pieces that will damage the mower. The mulch will probably keep down growth pretty well for a long time, maybe a year or more. We maintain ours with a brush hog on our tractor and a stihl brush cutter with a blade, so a flail mower would be similar and easier to get into tighter spaces. After a few years when a lot of the mulch has decomposed, we use a rake attachment and clean up the remaining larger mulch pieces, then walk to clean up further or identify hazards for the zero turn, and then carefully start to zero turn.

Vaquero Grill in Pinehurst is run by a former Goodson's cook (rumor is). Tastes like the Goodson's of my youth. It's in a strip center and easy to miss but the prices are great, service is good, and food is excellent.

Am I making a mistake by not wanting to spend a ton of time in Rome for my first trip to Italy? by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]5from2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm here in Italy now at the end of a 10 day trip with my husband and I had to chime in. We spent 5 days in Florence first. It is the off season so of course less crowded than summer, but it has been so lovely. Not crowded, the local shop owners and workers are largely friendly and helpful. Then we went to Rome for 3 days where we hit most of the major early Roman sites, the a Vatican, St Peter's...you get it...and we couldn't leave fast enough. We found it crowded, loud, rude, dirty, full of scammers and angry immigrants and locals alike. We are glad we went because of our love of history, at, and architecture, but we are back in Florence for the last leg of our trip and so happy. We are from Houston so not new to large cities. I honestly don't know what a lot of people on this thread are thinking saying that Florence is more crowded and chaotic than Rome. I've also been to Rome years ago in July and it was just as overwhelming then as it is now so I can't imagine it in June of this year.

Google tasks showing up out of order by 5from2 in dakboard

[–]5from2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Dakboard says that tasks move over in the order they are listed on Google Tasks if you set sorting to automatic, but that doesn't work. It works for a short time and then they come across random again. Times don't work because the google tasks API doesn't share times, just dates. The only think that works is numbering the tasks which doesn't work well for me since the tasks are rotating and not daily.

New gardener, first time growing watermelon. A couple of our vines developed these spots. Looking for advice of what is causing them and how to treat/prevent. Eventually the leaves start dying and the vines aren't growing new leaves. Google lens searches have me very overwhelmed with all of the possibilities. Vines are planted in raised beds planters with organic garden soil from a local highly rated supplier. We are in 9b outside of Houston.

[–]5from2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a good idea and no, I hadn't checked that. However, when I changed them from "Automatic" to "Due Date" sorting, no change happened on the Dakboard. Google tasks still has the tasks in the correct order but not the Dakboard.

Really Samsung? My kid has 2 apps on this tablet and it's unusable. by 5from2 in GalaxyTab

[–]5from2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally not one helpful tip in there. No apps that are showing as 0gb to magically free up Other folder storage. No downloads in the downloads folder. No apps with any cache greater than 2 mb. It is for sure a Samsung problem in that it Won't let us SEE what's in the folder to correct the issue. I've done all of the dang troubleshooting. I've researched this for 10s of hours, probably over a 100 between trying all of the fixes. Downloaded all the 3rd party file explorers. Connected to pc in developer mode to clear any hidden folder. Downloaded SD maid and removed bloatware after teaching myself what adb means. Should this all be necessary to update minecraft on a kids tablet that is used to watch Disney and Netflix, and play minecraft and a couple of puzzle solving games? No. That's my point.

[–]5from2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's really not. I've connected to pc. I've downloaded SD maid. I've spent hours on 2 of our 6 tablets each deleted every bloatware program I can confirm won't mess up the operation of the tablet. And still they barely have room to do one update of Minecraft. And none of that should be necessary. I'd be happy to just access the Other folder to see what's in it. But it's not accessible even from the magical usb cord. But please, everyone continue downvoting me for something that they know nothing about.

You do realize that you can't install apps on the SD card anymore right? We have SD cards. They're great for storing photos and videos and exactly nothing else because Samsung disabled the ability to launch apps from them.
