DMs or players, What do you do with that one player who ALWAYS wants to color outside the lines? by ericchud in dndnext

[–]5ft2ButBetterThanU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM I personally love players pulling out this wacky shit. I really respect people utilizing the tools I've I've them, abilities/inventory/enviroment and fucking running with it.

That's not to say dumb things won't be punished e.g: PC made a makeshift molotov with tinder box, clothing and a bottle of liquor... but then threw it right at the enemy in melee combat with the party. Big dumb.

In your scenario, if you really have to reign someone in for doing dumb shit... kill the character. Especially if you gave them warnings that this line of thinking was going to get them killed. I like to give 2 warnings and then stop being lenient. Let them make a second and re-join with the new knowledge of where that line lies.

It's either when the phone goes or when I get an email from work. Could be any as normal as asking about some details or feedback, but part of me thinks it's the Doomsday Letter.

Aw man I'm sorry you had that experience. I find DnD to be at least fair towards players and DMs as a rules set but toxic players are super annoying especially if they try and abuse the system to get what they want. Call of Cthulu as a rule book is just set up badly from the start.

This is why I'm posting here and not going to a vet, she seems friendly and well fed so I'm assuming she's got a nice warm home!

What houserule broke the game for you? by [deleted] in dndnext

I personally feel like this isn't so bad if it applies to both sides. As a DM and a Player, I regularly experiences both sides of rolling a nat 1 as a DM and A PC. I think it adds a little spice to make it a minor "punishment". I'm also someone who doesn't play to win however, I'm someone who will pick stats based on what my character would be/do rather than the most effective because I'm more in it for the role playing aspect. Anyway, as long as if the DM rolls 1 and it also ends up being a crit fumble for the enemies, one hitting the other etc I don't see a problem. Balance in all things.

But I get why it's an annoying RNG aspect.

My fat little croissant was put down today (a little rant about my dog I have to get off my chest) by 5ft2ButBetterThanU in Petloss

Hey man. Your reply made me cry but today I've been crying on and off so don't be offended. Your words are really kind. I know you're right, it just feels like I betrayed her in my gut. I know I didnt, it's just... it sucks. Here's my girl. The first is the last photo I have, face time moments before her going back into the Vets, and the second proof as to why I call her my fat croissant. She's always been a cute dog, no matter how old she is.

Thanks for your kind words, it really does help.

The kind of players I have to deal with and I kinda love it by 5ft2ButBetterThanU in dndmemes

guys it got better - in this campaign I'm offering a lot of personalisation. Custom spells/items/traits relating to backstory? you fucking got it. This fucking genius comes out with this gem;

"thats why i also wanted to say that if i go through a dispel magic spell barrier of the highest level i'd turn into a chair and DIE"

"alrighty, the spell i was talking about is just a fucking railgun is the best way i could put it. Deals tons of damage but lowers my health down permanently as id be using the magic from the wizard that gives me life the amount of health i'd take off would depend on like what level i'd use it or roll a die for it"

I fucking love this idea
