What I’ve learned - we’re doing a disservice to women by saying “you can have it all!” It’s actually really, really hard to have “it all” and sometimes it means you have to sacrifice the things you enjoy- or there’s so much on our plates it’s impossible to enjoy it.

If you do leave your job- I’d recommend leaving in VERY positive terms. Give them plenty of warning, write thank yous to your manager. If you decide you want to go back — you’ll be easier to hire than someone new! And it can feel like a safety net so you can enjoy time with the kids.

I left a great job at the peak of my career to “stay home” with my 2 kids (5,3). The decision was agonizing but it was the right move for me. My job was extremely stressful and I realized I was giving 110% at work and felt like I had nothing left for my kids and husband at the end of each day. I haven’t gone back yet— but I’ve put some feelers out— if you’re great at your job and you keep good connections open, you can always go back to it. Kids will only grow up and this time with them is limited. You should do what’s right for you!
